We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma & Michelle Suarez Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma & Michelle, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Emma and I have always been extremely passionate about animals, Growing up we both had and still have a love for horses, dogs, cats, and many other animals. Both of us have always known that we wanted to start a pet business, The initial idea of starting a pet sitting/grooming business came about when we decided to take a trip (which is usually something we never do without our pups) but with this trip, they were not able to go. We contacted family and friends to see who would be willing to check up on our pets daily since they are indoor dogs. We noticed that our pets tend to get anxious when we are away and this time we were going to be gone for a few days. Leaving them home while we were away was scary but the person who agreed to watch over them was someone that our pups knew and trusted. The day we left, they canceled on us. We were terrified that our babies would be home alone so we decided to immediately fly back. As we started to make arrangements to fly home, a friend of ours agreed to watch them so we could enjoy our trip. When we made it back home, we were so relieved to find that our fur babies were okay. That’s when we came up with Happy Shaggy Tails to assure that no one would have to go through that type of experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
Happy Shaggy Tails is not your typical boarding and grooming service. We treat every pet as our own providing a safe, comfortable, and fun environment, with plenty of toys, treats, and unlimited belly rubs. We provide same-day services, even if they are last minute. We also provide pickup and dropoff service all around Houston and the surrounding areas for our customer’s convenience. With our service, we always give our furry friends a bath to make sure they go home fresh and clean. We send photos and videos throughout the day so our customers can feel at peace knowing that their pet is being well taken care of. We are most proud of the feedback that our customers give us on how satisfied they are and how comfortable their pets are while they are with Happy Shaggy Tails. We have gotten where we are today by word of mouth, advertising, and by putting ourselves out there. It wasn’t easy but providing world-class service and treating our customers like family has provided us with a lot of opportunities. We have learned over time that each pet has a different personality. Some can be shy while others are very energetic. What we want the world to know is that we put ourselves in the customer’s shoes and we understand that it can be scary and stressful to leave your pets in an unfamiliar place. This is why we strive to provide peace of mind to our customers and their pets by offering a loving environment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to dedicate our shout-out to our amazing friend Ame Cuellar who was there for our pets, at a moment of despair, and for inspiring us to start a pet sitting business, She provided peace of mind to us and we want to offer that same peace of mind to our customers and their pets.

We also want to recognize our phenomenal friends and family for being our biggest cheerleaders and always providing support on our journey to start a business.
