We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuel Ebirim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emmanuel, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Fitness has a misconception as solely being used to manage body weight and physical appearance. It’s also commonly viewed as a strenuous and difficult experience, that only a select few grow to understand and appreciate. However, that is far from the truth. I believe that fitness offers a variety of benefits, such as being a vector for sustainable health improvements, an easily accessible preventative measure for negative health outcomes, a gateway for building discipline and motivation to take on new challenges, and of course a boost in self-esteem.
Therefore, I created Emmy Athletics as a first-of-its-kind fitness company that assists others in maximizing their potential and accomplishing their health and fitness goals. This is accomplished by redefining what fitness means and how it’s translated into lifestyle choices. Emmy Athletics offers concierge in-person and online personal training services, group fitness classes, exercise and nutrition plans, and social media content to help others attain the best versions of themselves.
Our mission is to empower through education and creativity, teaching people more about their bodies and how to better care for them. This mission is actively carried out in our local and global communities via social platforms, events, and services. We aspire to expand our reach, resources, and impact in the near future and continue cultivating a passion for fitness in the lives of others.
What should our readers know about your business?
My fitness journey began in a very cliché way – I just wanted to look and feel great. I know it may sound silly and should not be the only motivator, but that was my goal the day I walked into the gym for the very first time. However, as the years went by, I fell deeper in love with fitness and became motivated by the life-changing effects it had on my physical and mental health. I’ve been able to strengthen myself internally and externally, discover a therapeutic stress reliever, and gain a deeper knowledge of my body and how it works. Over time I grew a desire to share this passion with others and guide them towards achieving a similar sense of satisfaction.
Thus I began personal training clients in person and online, hosting group fitness classes, and developing exercise and nutrition plans. My training services utilize a unique approach by holistically evaluating each client and creating an individualized program that can easily be followed and seamlessly integrated into their daily life. Additionally, I work to shatter negative stereotypes about fitness and introduce a novel view of it as a luxurious form of self-care.
Since launching in 2021, Emmy Athletics has transformed the lives of many individuals, partnered with different healthcare professionals, fitness facilities, and companies, and will soon be releasing our first book (Fitness As An Experience: Secrets to unleashing the best you.) I’m most proud of our growth and the exceptional community that we have built and look forward to the amazing things in store for the company.
Launching this business has been far from easy, I’ve had to balance being a full-time student, family obligations, and other responsibilities in my professional career. There have been countless sacrifices, mistakes made and moments of set back but I cherish every bit of it because of the beauty it has birthed in Emmy Athletics. I think the most challenging aspect for me was building a presence on social platforms. As someone who battled with insecurities growing up, I was hesitant about how I would be perceived when releasing non-traditional fitness-related content. However, I overcame this by realizing that the success of my company would in part be due to “practicing what I preach,” and exuding the self-confidence I promote to others myself.
I want the world to know that this is merely the beginning of the monumental impact that Emmy Athletics aspires to have on the fitness, health, and wellness space. We are continuously growing our brand and plan to venture into other avenues such as commerce and healthcare. Lastly, we are grateful for the current and future support, investments, and belief poured into Emmy Athletics, it means everything to us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Houston, my favorite city ever I would ensure they experienced it in its entirety. To begin, my friends and I are all “soft-life babes” so our accommodations will reflect that with a stay at one of Houston’s five-star hotels such as The Post Oak Hotel or The Four Seasons Hotel Houston. During the day we would do fun and active activities such as bike riding through Hermann Park, a visit to some if not all of the incredible Houston museums, or shopping at the Galleria. During the evening we would dress in our finest, take pictures, and have dinner at festive restaurants such as The Warwick, Joey Uptown, or Ciel. After dinner, I would take my best friend to experience the vibrant Nigerian nightlife at any of the popular Nigerian clubs and after-hour events in Houston promoted by SK Entertainment Group. The following morning/afternoon would consist of an exquisite brunch or day party in true Houston fashion. Brunch would take place at any of the delicious and aesthetically pleasing restaurants in the River Oaks, or Downtown areas. In my view, Houston is filled with an assortment of great places to visit for all cultures and interests so I highly encourage stepping out of your comfort zone and giving them a try.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my mother, sisters, and close circle of friends for their unwavering love and support throughout the establishment and operation of Emmy Athletics. I also wish to recognize my “Emmy Athletes,” clients I’ve had the privilege of working with who fuel my desire to continue growing the company.
