We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric D. Tillis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric D., what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The wedding industry is a 250billion dollar industry with the United States being 100billion dollar industry per year, making the United States the most competetive market. There are five state that are the best to work in California, Texas, New York, Florida, and Illinois. Venues are broken down into three categories: surburban, urban, and farmland. With the event industry being seasonal broken down into four seasons from January to march is sports season, April to June is graduation season, July to September is wedding season and October to December is holiday season. I tend to offer four packages. The barista package, the sommelier package, mixologist package, and the cicerone package. Overall the industry is highly competitive market so by offering more packages gives us a competitive edge above our completion.
What should our readers know about your business?
I would say sets mixology and flair apart from other bar services in the city is our fire, ice and flair show! By us entertaining our guest with this show, it gives us an edge against competition. We have gotten to where we are today is by seeing the bigger picture and never quitting! No, it wasn’t easy. It has taken us to relocate back to houston, 7 years of rejection and denials, and studying the market while learn from guest experiences.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I enjoy a variety of cultured spots around Houston. For a week long vacation, some food spots we would for sure visit would be Trez Art & Wine Bar, Turkey Leg Hut, The Greasy Spoon, A’ Bouzy, Brennens of Houston, Vic & Anthonys, Phil & Dereks, Postinos, Steak 48, Davis St, and Peli Peli.
Some of my favorite bars are 5015 located on Almeda, 5 Central, Bar 2200, Woosters, Fin Hall, the Flying Saucer, and Sweet Lips Cigar lounge.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my fraternity brothers here in Texas. They keep pushing me to new heights and toward bigger goals! They have been supporting my business through out the city of Houston and the state of Texas since we relocated the business back in 2019. We now have consulted at four bars in the houston area, exclusive clientele and we have two venue partnerships! None of this could have been done with out the director of sales and marketing Amber Poullard, from talking to clients, to helping when establishing new venue partnerships
