We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is everything! Without taking risks you’ll find yourself sitting on a cliff above water wondering all the while if you can swim. If you don’t jump in you’ll never know what you what you’re missing. You can’t make waves if you don’t take a dive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I became an artist early in life, but i didn’t realize how my art would turn heads until I was 16 years old. I painted a mural of Selena and was on tv and interviewed by mtv3. I became a tattoo artist at 28 and that set up me up financially. I came back to my music career 10 years later and well it’s not been easy but definitely a road I would walk all over again.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take him downtown to some of the restaurants and little bars down there. Then definitely go to some concerts at white oak music hall, warehouse live and house of blues. We’re both artists so definitely the museum district and monetize area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, middle school band director and my high school art teacher. All the guidance and influence to become an ambitious person stated with them all.
