We had the good fortune of connecting with Erick Trejo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erick, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk and seeking out new opportunities definitely makes you think about the unknown, humans only hold each other back and restrict themselves out of fear of the unknown. Taking chance will drive you to always push forward until you have reached your goal, allowing you to push even further until you reach the end. For me I have fought for awareness of people to who are apart of the LGBTQ+ community and have always supported and believed that everyone has the right to express themselves regardless of orientation, religion and beliefs, I have risk my own dreams and stand for other people who have fear to be their true self, I have been on a podcast and talked about my own stories and spreading awareness that anyone can smile, everyone has their own story up their upbringing and falls. My dream career is to pursue dance and to use the art form to tell stories and use it have a way to cope with life struggles. Letting loose and letting the flow take over your body and feel proud of yourself and stand strong for yourself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is dance, it’s something beautiful that allows to relax the mind and express the emotion and release the stress and problems I have face, it builds confidence and leadership and allows freedom to take over. I still haven’t reached the level of what I would love to be, I still practice and seek out more opportunities to learn about dance. The lesson I have learned is to imagine where you wanna preform and imagine the people in front of you, and the harshest critic is yourself. The only restriction you have is what you place on yourself, you can do anything as long you put your mind into it. I want people to know that even I, myself have felt many things and have decided to quit but I will not allow that take over me and stop me from living my true self and stoping me from having future I set for myself to love and to live.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Houston is a beautiful place to just have a nice drive thru during the night while listening to your favorite music while riding with the people who have very similar tastes. The view of the moon and the city from driving on the highway is truly beautiful, and I recommend everyone to do it with someone they love.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I most definitely want to shout out the to the QUEER 2 QUEER cast as they have reached out and allow me to use their platform to tell my stories and to reach other to others kids, teenagers and adults and everyone who have felt disconnected from themselves, I’m am proud to have worked with Collin Gerard and the many people he has worked with too. I believe to make this a awareness known and to make the Q2Q cast better and bigger.
