We had the good fortune of connecting with Erony Minix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erony, what matters most to you?
The value or principle that matters most to me is loyalty because it defines one as a person. Loyalty is EVERYTHING to me because at the end of the day, all one has is connectivity to another person regardless of the relationship and we all need need to KNOW without question that we have at least one person in this world that loves, supports, and “has” us regardless of the circumstances and that they have their our best interest at heart and us for them. One can be the wealthiest person in the world as it pertains to money BUT not have one loyal person in their lives and I can only imagine that it is a lonely existence. So, yeah Loyalty is HUGE to me!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our
community?
What sets me apart from others is that I am DRIVEN! Every single goal that I have set for myself in this life, I have accomplished regardless of whatever challenge I may have been facing in my life at that moment. If I say imma do it, trust and believe that I
am gonna do it! I never let anything stop me, Even if I gotta take a break that’ all it will be but I’m not giving up on anything in this life that I want.

I am a proud LMSW (Licensed Master of Social Work)! I truly love what I do and
couldn’t see myself in any other profession. I worked my butt off for this and it is very humbling because most times people do not seek out assistance and resources from social workers because they are doing well, most times it is because they are facing challenges in a place in their lives and it is our job to comfort and provide the most assistance that we can to get them from point A to point B. It is also definitely NOT the best paying career either but it definitely pays well which leads me to the point of stating that you truly have to be in this profession for the people and be compassionate to fill the shoes of a social worker! I originally went to school for pharmacy but my passion for the people and wanting to assist where I can kept leading me back to social work. Lol, my father had a fit when I confessed that I was changing my degree plan but now, he couldn’t be prouder and so am I of my career choice.

Was it easy?! Lol absolutely NOT! I overcame the challenges because of my family, they literally pushed me across that finish line with prayer and just being by my side. I remember crying one day and wanting to quit grad school, I called my cousin and she told me straight up to stop that crying, she said quitting is NOT an option. “YOU ARE GOING TO GET THAT MSW!” she said. She was one of the first persons apart from my mother that I showed my Degree to when I received it! The lessons that I have learned along the way is that quitting is no longer an option in anything that I do in my life. I will finish whatever I start. Imma do it tired, imma do it scared, imma do it knowing that imma finish regardless and that is what I am teaching my sons. Whatever you start, you must finish! Don’t pay attention to the distractions, drown out the noise around you because you are surrounded with undying love and a family that will uplift you when you feel like you have no more strength and that’s all that matters! Belief in yourself with the support of your loved ones is priceless and We got each other, that’s it, that’s all!

I want you to make treating yourself a habit, Not an option! You can’t love anything in this life until you Love YOU first… Accepting that our uniqueness is what makes us beautiful and that beauty truly lies within our differences, this my friend is where our true confidence lies and once you unleash your confidence, you are unstoppable. You are the prize and you deserve the best!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the
best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was
a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Luckily for me my besties are here in the H lol but in the event that they weren’t from Houston and knew nothing about our amazing city, then oh the places that we would go lol. Since one of the greatest things about our city is the cultural diversity,than the first thing I’m doing is taking them to the best food spots as Houston has the most impeccable cuisines! We’re gonna get some amazing Caribbean food from Cool Runnings Jamaican food restaurant, and we can’t leave the Nigerian food out lol so we’re gonna swing by Finger Licking Nigerian restaurant and then we’re going to go get some Colombian food from La Fogata! I am in love with learning about different cultures and the way to anybody’s heart is through their stomachs lol but me being a Houston gal, we gotta get us some BBQ too!

I am a laid back type of girl so we partying at Club Carringtons hands down lol
Carringtons can be a little rough but we can handle anything that comes our way
because we are tough, right? lol Then we going to some of the most amazing
museums in our wonderful museum district. We are all about celebrating our
blackness so we are going to visit the Buffalo Soldiers museum and possibly the
Houston Museum of Natural Science for some AMAZING exhibits and to wrap it up, we definitely have to go to the Holocaust museum, that experience is one that you will never forget. I am also going to take you to the Space Center since we are the Space City, and since we love our football out here in Houston, we are wrapping up our time together with a Houston Texans game! Hello, we are Texans lol you not getting through our great state without acknowledging that Texas is a football state!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional
recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is dedicated entirely to my family as they are the entire reason for me being in a position to be able to express myself personally and professionally! Their undying love, encouragement, and unwavering support and just overall belief in me i overwhelming and I would not be where I am in this great space in my life right now if it weren’t for them, particularly the women in my life… my mother (Rosemary), mysecond mommy (My father’s wife, Marcia), my 2 beautiful late grandmothers(Melvola & Beatrice), My aunt Velma particularly but all of my aunts, Helen, MaryLouise, T-Betty, Millie, Hazel and my late aunt Barbara, my aunt Mae and my cousins Jasmine, Josette, Latanya, Trevin, Portia and Yolanda (My Jojo), my beautiful sonsand mini best friends Noah & Aydan and of course, last but not least to the big man i my life, my father Dennis. These individuals have exuded beauty, strength anddetermination my entire life and they all have a role in the woman that I have become!They believe in me and have supported me throughout EVERY venture in my life.. Good, bad and ugly they are part of each and every journey that makes me and I look up to them and truly couldn’t do this thing called life without them!
