We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelin Leyva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evelin, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The company was founded by Amy Arnold and Jessica Stanley in 2014 in Austin, Texas, to spread joy and create a positive impact in communities nationwide. The company has grown to over 450 locations across the country. We are the Cypress TX location.
What should our readers know about your business?
Card My Yard sets itself apart from competitors with its innovative, streamlined ordering system. Customers can place an order online and send a greeting to someone they care about in another city or state that has a Card My Yard franchise. Our goal was to make online ordering so easy that a busy parent could book a card for their kid while multitasking.
Card My Yard Cypress is extremely proud of the significant growth that we’ve experienced since taking over on January 1st, 2021. Looking back at this past year, it hasn’t been easy for sure but luckily for us we’ve had not only ourselves to depend on, but our friends that are always there to help us. One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned (still learning) is that it’s ok to say “No” and take a day off, to spend with the family and recharge.
I would like the world to know that Card My Yard is in our community to cater to special occasions, events, milestones, and to give back to the community in any way we can.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many interesting and fun places in Houston, but we will keep most of my itinerary in Cypress TX which is the area we service.
We would start the morning with some coffee at one of my favorite places, Cafe ZunZun, PJ’s Coffee, or French Press Coffee House.
Some of our favorite activities that Cypress has to offer, include shopping at the Houston Premier Outlets, fishing at different spots throughout the area, golf at Blackhorse Golf Course or Houston National Golf Course, check out a replica of the Alamo at Cy-Hope, watch live horse racing at Sam Houston’s Racetrack, or catch a movie at “Cut” movie theater.
We would visit some of our favorite local bars at Klaus Brewery, Local Bar, and Rosehill Beer Garden.
Some of our favorite places to visit for lunch or dinner would be The Burger Ranch & Lounge, Local Table, Manny’s Pizza, Ambriza, Union Kitchen or any other restaurant in Town Lake.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have several individuals that I’d like to recognize, first of all, my husband and co-owner Gus Leyva. He’s my number one supporter and I’ve been blessed to have his love, & support in all of my adventures. Plus, he fell in love spreading joy that he’s now working our business full time. I’d also like to give a shoutout to the previous owners and friends Jennifer & Michael Bruner. This journey would not have happened if they wouldn’t have given us the opportunity to buy the franchise. I’d also like to give a special shoutout to our Card My Yard Corporate, their unconditional support & motivation has truly been a blessing. last but definitely not least, all of the networking sisters in the NU House networking group. This set of strong, focused, and determined business owners have helped me grow as an individual and business owner and life is simply better with them in it.
