We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelin Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evelin, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is that there are more important things than my business. Wait, what?! When we embark on our entrepreneurial journey is to build a better life, to get ahead financially, to help others, etc. To be transparent with you I got stuck in my business and rode the emotional rollercoaster. It got emotional and frustrating. I had to re-evaluate my choices and even asked myself. Why did I start this again? I started realizing, I’m neglecting the people and the entire reason I’m doing all of this. I felt so guilty for being stuck on my computer all day, literally. Accepting this realization helped me to make much-needed changes and adjustments to my business. I had to train myself to prioritize and manage my time.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder and CEO of Good News Digital Marketing, which provides personalized media and social services for small business owners. I love the creativity, storytelling, and content creation of social. Most people think it’s awesome I get paid just to be on Facebook or Instagram but the reality is that there is so much more that goes into it. There’s planning, content creation, strategizing, and each business I service is unique. I’m also responsible for the social image and reputation of my client’s businesses. That’s very delicate and a huge responsibility which I take very seriously. The most rewarding aspect of what I do is witnessing the growth of a brand. I also love the ability to set my schedule, pick, and choose who I want to work with, and help clients grow their business through social media. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned along the way is the importance of communication and transparency between myself and my clients. I’m very passionate about what I do. I continue to learn on a daily since social media is constantly evolving. I love engaging with fans in a very real way because I do grow fond of the brand communities I build.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love our city! So rich in culture. Very diverse. There’s plenty to see and do. Our first stop would be Discovering Green. It is such a beautiful park in the heart of Houston. Next, I’m a caffeine lover and Houston doesn’t disappoint with the many cute and cozy coffee shops around town. Catalina Coffee and Tout Suite are some of my favorites. For lunch/dinner we’re set up. The choices are endless! I don’t necessarily have a favorite spot per se, but I love to taste other culture’s cuisines. Some of my favorites include of course Mexican food, Cuban and Colombian. I love the outdoors and outdoor activities so a bike ride along the Buffalo Bayou is a must.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely wouldn’t be where I’m at today without the support of my husband Christian Martinez and my daughter Annie Martinez. They’re my number one fan. My mentors who are entrepreneurs and spiritual parents, Pastor Andres Garcia and Pastor Diana Garcia, they have poured so much into my life. I’m forever grateful. Of course, my supporters and everyone who has spread the word about my business.
