We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelyn Mora and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evelyn, what inspires you?
Speaking from my present, I am inspired by my Faith and my religiosity, from my gratitude for being a creature of God and living immersed in his creation, in human coexistence and the earthly world created by HIM. I make from the gifts and talents I receive from God and connect with earthly humanity, seeking the path to the heavenly.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art is an expressive channel that is visible and contains a message that helps us connect with people.

As artists, we are constantly changing. In recent years, my calling, so to speak, has been to connect with my spirituality and use my art as a service to God. I focus mainly on giving color to my FAITH, which has filled me with great blessings and joys.

The support I have received has been surprising because being a Catholic artist is difficult. However, my works can be admired by people who do not necessarily practice religion, which gives me the strength to continue.

On the other hand, I support myself by continuing to study techniques and expressive forms. I love making abstracts, which lets my imagination fly and disconnects me from formalism, allowing me to reach another audience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her to eat meat in Texas Do Brazil, visit the museums of Houston, take her on a tour of the German Tomball Fair (Octoberfest), and take her to an hour of worship by Candlelight at the Houston Co-Catedral.
I would take her to Ambriza Restaurant for the best Margaritas, and to close, I would take her to a country music and dance place.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My primary and most excellent recognition is for God, the creator of everything, who has guided me on this journey, and definitely for my family and my friends, who are also my chosen family. They have believed in my art from the beginning and have been invaluable support and a driving force for me to continue. I must give special thanks to my prayer group and all the people that God has put in my path in all this learning.
