We had the good fortune of connecting with Eydn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eydn, why did you pursue a creative career?
Honestly I feel like it pursued me. I could sing before I could talk and my mother saw that and helped it grow. She got me one of those little tap a tune pianos and I’m sure i was wearing it out daily. From there was church choir and school choir, plays, piano, violin, dance anything that peaked my interest.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
All my life I’ve had a unique voice. Its always been very distinguishable from among the other voices even while singing with groups. Although Im a R&B/Artist now, the uniqueness of my voice afforded me various opportunities as vocal support for many well known Gospel and Christian Artist such as Micah Stampley, Kurt Carr, Juanita Bynum, and many others. Sad to say that even though I traveled the world seeing and doing things that most artists dream of I still did not believe in myself at the time. It was long an arduous road getting to where I am singing R&B. Even so I’m still a woman of Faith and that has kept me grounded and always reaching to be the best me I can be. A lot of prayer, A lot of self assessment and a lot of learning is how I overcame + a near death experience during child birth that made me really take a look at my life thus far. I would say one of the major lessons I learned along the way is “BE KIND” ! You never know what people are going through and no matter what Keep Your Name clean! That will get you into and keep you in places all the marketing in the world cannot. After all that my Brand is now about positivity and change. You’re never too old to do something new. Dont let your Dream die! Go after your it; No matter how foolish it may seem. Of course you have to keep things in perspective but that dream, that vision should be the side hustle from your day job until it becomes your only job. Okay Im off my soap box lol!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my city!! Some of my favorite spots are downtown on Main street ANYWHERE!! I usually go to Moonshiners, and Bovine and Barley, Lilly&bloom theres even a little speak easy next door with nosign that I like to frequent too. Midtown: Were usually off of Gray st. at Cafe Layal or Coco Crepes or nowhere just park and walk. Eado: EVERYWHERE (thats my favorite part of town so ride bicycles often through there.) Heights: Jennis freaking Ice Cream is amazing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Angela Carter of the Dr. L.C. Carter foundation. she is a good friend of mine who in my early years as an upcoming vocalist was instrumental in building my confidence and belief in my gift.
