We had the good fortune of connecting with Favour Ayozie ( Shop Akachii) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Favour, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
“At Shop Akachii, we’re more than just a fashion brand. We’re a celebration of African heritage, a platform for creativity, and a force for positive change.

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting long shadows across the bustling streets of Ibadan, I find myself lost in the world of fabrics and dreams. I’m Ayozie Favour, the creative force behind Shop Akachii, a brand that’s not just about fashion, but a celebration of Nigerian culture.

Each design, each stitch, is a labor of love. We take the vibrant, timeless Ankara fabric, a symbol of African heritage, and transform it into modern, stylish pieces. From elegant corsets to bold suits and flowing gowns, every garment tells a story. A story of tradition, innovation, and the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian people.

But our impact extends beyond the runway. By using locally sourced materials and traditional techniques, we’re not just creating beautiful clothes; we’re supporting local artisans and preserving our cultural heritage. We’re empowering individuals to embrace their African roots and express themselves through fashion.

When I see someone wearing our designs, a sense of pride washes over me. It’s more than just a piece of clothing; it’s a statement. A statement of identity, of culture, and of the power of fashion to inspire and uplift.

Shop Akachii isn’t just a brand; it’s a movement. A movement that’s redefining African fashion, one stunning design at a time.

We empower individuals to embrace their African roots and express themselves through stylish, sustainable fashion. By using locally sourced materials and traditional techniques, we support artisans and contribute to the local economy.

Our designs not only celebrate the beauty of African culture but also inspire a new generation to appreciate and embrace their heritage. We believe that fashion has the power to transform, and we’re proud to be part of that movement.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As the creative director of Shop Akachii, an Afrocentric fashion line, I strive to infuse traditional Nigerian aesthetics into contemporary designs. I’m passionate about using sustainable practices and ethical sourcing to minimize our environmental impact. What sets me apart is my commitment to empowering individuals to embrace their African heritage and make a positive contribution to the world through fashion.

How I got to where I am today:

Building Shop Akachii hasn’t been easy. Like many small businesses in Nigeria, we’ve faced numerous challenges, including limited access to grants and funding. However, my determination to create a sustainable and impactful brand has kept me going. I’ve overcome these challenges by leveraging my creativity, resourcefulness, and the support of my community.

Lessons learned:

Through this journey, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and building strong relationships. I’ve also realized that sustainability is not just a trend but a necessity. By prioritizing ethical practices and using eco-friendly materials, we can create a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.

What I want the world to know:

I want the world to know that African fashion is vibrant, innovative, and sustainable. Shop Akachii is more than just a brand; it’s a movement that celebrates African heritage and empowers individuals. We’re committed to making a positive impact on the world, one stylish piece at a time.

Additionally, I’m proud to be combining my studies in law with my passion for fashion. This unique blend allows me to navigate the legal complexities of the fashion industry and ensure ethical business practices.

I believe that by supporting sustainable fashion and empowering African artisans, we can create a more equitable and sustainable future.
