We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Stark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabrielle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is needed for survival and crucial to anyone that wants to succeed.High rewards come with high risks. Starting a business is a risk but if you never take the risk, you stay stuck in the “What If?”. I started my business regardless of the risks and it supported me financially and all of my desires. I believe in my power to succeed instead of worrying about the risks.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is comes in many forms such as photography, abstract paintings, copper jewelry, and herbal remedies. Since 13, capturing images have been played a strong role in my life and it carried into my college career at LSU Baton Rouge. There I was exposed to so many different mediums and that started the fire within to create anything I felt . I realized painting was just as important as it was a physical release of expression. I love getting lost in the abyss of abstract art and constantly questioning what it is you see. I went on to make my own jewelry as a form of wearing my creations, which caught the attention of strangers and forced my hand to make a website.
As far as using herbs and natural remedies to help the community, it started at home. After years of suffering with menstrual pains and no relief from doctors, I studied herbal medicine aggressively , changed my diet , and started using herbal teas and tinctures.
I learned that consistency will make or break you. Once I established the new norm for myself, the business had no option but to grow. The more I poured into my business, the more clientele reached out from all over the nation.
I want the world to know that I am dedicated to improving the quality of life in the most natural way possible and my business shall reflect so. My art will make you investigate and wake up both sides of your brain.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in New Orleans definitely include Wah Kitchen(Indian food), Cafe Equator(Thai Food), and my kitchen(home-cooked meals). We could hang out at City Park or Audubon Park with a fruit tray and wine and end up doing a photoshoot. Airline Skating Rink for a chill late night weekday vibe. Paladar 511, True Food Kitchen and Nola Caye are more good food spots(the Oxtails are the BOMB) .The Ogden Museum and NOMA are great choices for museum dates. We could walk the riverwalk and shop after we catch the ferry.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to 3 special people in my life. My father who supported all my dreams and ambitions until his passing in 2007. My mother who continued to support and promote my business in anyway she can. Lastly, my partner, Justin Harris, who motivates me and pushes me everyday to be a better artist, person and lover.
