We had the good fortune of connecting with Gigi Saleh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gigi, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons my business has taught me was to always do things scared. When I say do things scared, I mean to do the things that feel most uncomfortable to you. Being a business owner you will wear many hats for the first time. Don’t be afraid to try new things even if they don’t work out or go as planned. Being a business owner means putting yourself out there to be cricquited for your hard work. Its just like riding a bike for the first time. The first time you get on a bike you are scared, scared to fall, but the more and more you push through and “do it scared” the more you will learn and the easier it will get!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The name of my brand is JGabryelle Designs. We are a luxury woman’s fashion brand specilizing in evening wear. The one thing I am most proud of is the fact that I am a self- taught fashion designer. I’ve always knew I wanted to sew just didn’t know how or where to start. One day I literally opened the box of my birthday gift which was my first sewing machine, and the rest was history! I love that I wanted something so much that I really put in the work to be able to learn a new skill and do what I love everyday! It has not been easy, there has literally been blood, sweat and tears along this journey but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that nothing worth having will EVER come easy! However, As long as you put in the work and stay consisitent, the universe will reward you in more ways than you will ever know!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming into town the first stop is FOOD! We are big foodies so a stop at the Houston grub park or a local taco truck is all we need! She can’t come to Houston and not SHOP! Of course we will go to the galleria but we also have to hit our spots Fashion House, Trend Mall and Just in! For drinks we are going somewhere with a nice ambiance like Secret Garden, Wonder Bar, or The nice resturant in the Post Oak Hotel. Lastly for brunch, before sunday funday of course, we are going to Lost and Found or Taste Bar. Food will NEVER disappoint!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to the younger me!
