We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenda Monya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Glenda, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
With my business, I don’t believe there will be an end goal. The vision I have in mind for my business there simply just cannot be an end goal. There is so much I want to do and grow with this company, and I don’t believe a company should have an end goal. Where I want to be in the next couple of years is simply just to be better and bigger than what I am now. With the “end” of my career, all I hope is for someone to take over and continue to share the work I’ve done along with continuing to create beautiful work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always seen my work as different in many aspects, no photographers work will be the same and it’s not supposed to be. I’m proud of how far I’ve gotten and the shoots I’ve done so far. I didn’t think I’d be shooting most of the shoots I’m doing now. I started off with taking pictures for sports and now I’m doing portraits shoots and starting my first big project soon. It wasn’r easy at first at first, I had a lot of doubt on my end, but with support from others and believing in myself I’ve gotten so far. There is still a lot I want to do for my business, and I’m honestly ready to see where I’ll go.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston has a lot of attractions, you can’t just pick one but you have to go to the best ones. In all honesty, the best attractions are really downtown. We’ll start with the food there are a bunch of food places, like food trucks and new restaurants. I personally would go to Dave’s Hot Chicken, one of my favorites. I love Buffalo Bayou, it’s very beautiful along with Discovery Green there is always cool stuff happening down there. I love going on scooter rides downtown, and just seeing the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m extremely blessed to have the supported people in my life who helped me along with this journey. I really want to shout out to my mom, Prudence, my sister, Gretel, and late grandmother, Mami Vero , they have been the biggest supporters and advisors to what I’m doing now. I know that without I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing. I also want to shout out Chübby M., he was the first person I did a shoot with and has been my right-hand man when it comes to anything to do with my business. He is very supportive and I am extremely thankful that he let me experiment around with shoot ideas and concepts. I can go on and on with the list of people that have helped me through it all, but words cannot explain how thankful and blessed I am. Love all.
