We had the good fortune of connecting with Gwe Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gwe, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Prior to starting my business as a entrepreneur in the hair industry, one of my main interest was making money. Though my passion for it sprint deeper than I knew even at that time, seeing that amount of money made in a week was so fulfilling. However, I wanted a name for myself, and I wanted to feel like I was aligning with what God truly wanted me to do with my business. In my mind I thought it looked like working with celebrities, doing shows across the world, and being seen as a artist known solely for her passion and creativity. Although I accomplished a lot in more than one way, I had no idea how small that thought process was for my destination. Journeying through the start up while taking one step after another, trying to reach a higher level within my gift wasn’t easy to do. Especially when you’re balancing single motherhood, school, running businesses, and tackling life itself. Your thoughts waiver, fear knocks, and as the world grow so does the industries saturation full of other great hair artist. I knew better to not let that stop what was truly in my spirit to do. Starting my business was just the beginning of my purpose as it has allowed me to jump from one title branching into another. The vision behind Graceful Touchez Bridal has grew pass my early expectations, and the desires I once had for my company.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Graceful Touchez Bridal birthed from my original business named, “Graceful Touchez”. It is a name that identifies the gift in the artist, and it’s presence that you encounter along with the service. It’s embracing, it’s understanding and that’s what sets us apart. We specialize in providing services to brides and their tribes for weddings, and other functions where they are in need of a classy and elegant look for their tresses. I’m most proud of the love and feedback that I get from my clients. At times I am doubted by others due to having one operating employee (Gwe Jackson -self) but my work and efficiency always leave them applaud. I’ve been serving women since I was a teenager, and having the opportunity to learn woman at a young age has given me a guide in performing services on their hair. From listening to them, knowing what they want, and providing them with something worth modeling has given me good lead way with my performances. However, as good as it can be, at times it can definitely be overwhelming. I strive at pleasing my clients because I want for them what they want for themselves, to look and feel the part as a bride. Because I am specific on details, sometimes the work load can be a lot for one person but I am passionate always grateful for every opportunity. Truthfully had it not been for the women who have taken a chance on Graceful Touchez Bridal, I wouldn’t be here today. Due to the high demand of bridal requests, I have become a full time operating business that travels all over. I’m so grateful! I’ve learned that staying faithful to God, trusting the process, and committing to the course can get you far. It’s not always in the moments where we flourish do we gain value, it’s in the times where we are stuck, and life serves an unexpected meal that you gain a great amount of knowledge from. Choosing to see it through is rewarding in its journey to prosperity. You have to learn to take every given moment serious whether you feel suited for it or not. Taking a chance on you allows others to take a chance on you too. I want the world to know that I am sure of the services and what Grace Touchez Bridal is and what it provides to all ethnicities rather near or far. Being your brand is giving people your true self and when you stay true to that you stay true to the services you provide.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I consider myself a classy, fun, yet sometimes spontaneous, and adventurous kind of woman when I have the time to let my hair hang down by my waistline lol. On a Friday, we would start with a bite to eat at Max Wine Dive and head to Moxies for happy hour. Most likely we would do a outfit change for a night setting, and head to Urban Social and/ or Ratio for a more cultural vibe with good music and hookah. Come Saturday, we would do something more settled like dinner at Willie G’s or Eddie V’s (that’s my spot lol). Sunday would be church service followed by a good brunch at Chapman & Kirby where the music is good and the sight is justifiably good to look at.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I truly want to highlight God. I also want to shine the light on my village and my supporters. From my daughter, mom, sisters, grandma, and other women in my life who has uplifted me, to the women I have encountered along my journey who has given me an idea of who I am, thank you. Most women I have come across has expressed with so much love and gratitude for just being who I truly am, and sharing their countless amount of growth moments, awareness of self worth, inspiration, love and encouragement they’ve received. Truthfully, they have no idea how rewarding it has been for me as well. Had I given up on the calling God had on me I know at heart I would have never been this wise as a woman, a mom, a leader, a teacher, nor a learner. I give a great amount of thanks and appreciation to every individual woman who has sown into me because it’s value is way more substantial. You ladies are one of the many reasons God keeps me serving. Lastly, shoutout to this woman of purpose (must read) who wrote, “Proverbs 31 Becoming The Woman God Wants Me To Be” by Donna Partow. This book is so insightful, self improving, self identifying, spiritually strengthening, and purposeful.
