We had the good fortune of connecting with Hala Karn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hala, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Honestly I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with taking risks. Always avoided it because my brain would automatically think that whatever I’m about to risk is just going to go downhill. Throughout the years I’ve trained my thought process that one, just because I’m taking this risk does not mean it will have a bad outcome. It may not go how I wanted it to, but something even better could turn out from it. And two, the only thing you gain from taking a risk is learning a new lesson. That thought process has eased my brain to comprehend that taking risks shouldn’t be a negative thing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started creating content relating to fashion, makeup and lifestyle about 2 years ago officially. I actually wanted to start 2 years prior that date but due to my anxiety and some insecurities that prevented me from doing what I wanted to do. I used to always worry about what others are going to think of me or if I’m ‘posting too much’. I was definitely a victim of that for some time. Throughout time i started to force myself to get in-front of a camera, have photoshoots (thanks to Bukola) and even make content in the public. Definitely wasn’t my thing but pushing myself out of my comfort zone made me realise that I’m not worried about these people and people aren’t worried about me! Everyone has their own lives and issues they are worried about so I should just do what ever my heart desired. Making content just made me happy. The passion I have for it just made me not think of anything else and I’m so glad I took that step for myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow this is a hard one. I have so many favourite spots in Houston so let’s start with morning brunch! Little hen is one of my favourites because the aesthetic is so cute and the food is ACTUALLY GOOD. Safina Houston is another lowkey spot, it’s inside of the hotel and I loved their Mediterranean brunch. Lastly, moxies is another great brunch spot. They have an outdoor patio for nice city views. Now for dinner spots I have a lot haha I’m always eating out. I love the Warwick, guard and grace, Miyakos, RA sushi,Bungalow, north Italia, Morton’s steakhouse, etc. The places I mentioned have a nice ambiance with great food as well! It all just depends on what you’re craving.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So first off I would like to thank my mother for pushing me to do what made me happy. She is a huge advocate of ‘if it makes you happy do it’ or ‘what ever makes you happy’. That saying always comforted me knowing she had my back through whatever life choices I made as well as getting back up when I fell to the ground. Only she knows the difficult life choices I had to make and she never looked at me any differently. Her simple support system means more than she could possibly imagine.
