We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my career has taught me (that I really think is applicable in many life situations) is that you are always going to be scared so do not wait to do something until you are not scared because you’ll never do it – just do it scared. I heard this advice about a year ago and it has stuck with me since. As soon as I heard that advice, I immediately started working on a website for my blog because in the past I feel I have been held back from doing things for fear of failure or what other people would think. I finally realized that nothing is going to ever happen if I do not even try and it’s unrealistic to think I won’t be scared in times of change or when making big decisions. I give this advice to anyone who will listen because I feel it has drastically changed the course of my life and will continue to do so as I go after new dreams in the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel what sets me apart from others is my willingness to stand out in terms of the way I express myself through clothing. I want to wear and create things that set me apart from others and by doing that, I hope to inspire others to do the same and to wear and be who they want in order to step into their inner confidence. I have set out to completely be myself and not put on a face for anybody and/or social media and it makes me proud of myself as I have had many people who know me personally reach out to tell me they love that I am completely myself so I feel that I am accomplishing what I set out to do. I am new to the blogging scene, I just launched my blog officially about 7 months ago and though I have grown and learned so much, I still have leaps and bounds to make for years and years to come. Getting to where I am right now has not been easy and it has taken tons of research and hard work however, it still has been so fun for me despite my trials and failures. I have overcome challenges simply by remembering my end goal and remembering where I would eventually like to end up one day – this is why I refuse to quit. As I have been going through this journey, I have learned that there is no easy or quick way to get where I want to be. There are no shortcuts and anything that seems like a quick way to do something is not the quality way to do it. I have learned to be patient and to take each day as it comes and to always remember that even very small progress is still progress. I want the world to know that I am unapologetically me and I am this way because I want to teach others to do the same. I want people to know that I am doing what I do for others, yes I love it but I love it because of the opportunity I have to teach others and to help them grow in their own confidence.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooooh I love showing friends around so I would definitely start off the day somewhere for brunch, probably Bread Winners and we would down some mimosas! Then I would take them to Bishop Arts in Dallas which is a super fun little area with lots of shops and restaurants where we could grab some lunch and drinks and just shop around for the day. My favorite days are spent this way! Then for dinner we could go to somewhere a little bit nicer so probably this place called The Charles which does a really unique take on Italian food and they also have this super cool champagne lounge separate from the restaurant where you can have drinks while you wait for your table to be ready. To end the night we would go across the street to the Virgin Hotel and go to the rooftop bar for a nightcap. To me the most fun places to go are places with a great atmosphere, lots of people, fun music, and good vibes. For me, I don’t need anything fancy just a good time! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout a few resources that have really get me in the right place mentally and creatively to help me start and continue this career path. First is the RISE podcast by Rachel Hollis which is a women in business podcast that allowed me to understand that I can create my own career path and be successful in it. The second is the book The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein which allowed me to better understand that we each have our own power that we can step into in order to do big things. Lastly, is the podcast The Mindset Mentor by Rob Dial Jr. which has helped me to get my mind in the right place to be tough on myself and to put in the hard work to make things happen.
