We had the good fortune of connecting with Harold Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harold, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first started doing photography, I never planned to turn it into a business. I began by taking photos at local automotive events with my phone and quickly found that I loved it. So, I decided to invest in my first camera, a Canon T3i. As I attended more car events, I started receiving questions about where I was posting the photos, which eventually led to car enthusiasts asking for private sessions. It wasn’t until later that I realized I could actually make money doing this, which is when I decided to turn my passion into a business. From automobiles, I branched out to photographing models, families, and various other styles of photography.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is all about capturing moments and emotions in ways that resonate with people. Whether it’s through automotive photography, portraits, or family sessions, I strive to tell stories that are personal and meaningful. What sets me apart is my ability to adapt to different styles, but always with a creative approach that reflects my passion for the subject. I’m proud of how far I’ve come—from starting with a phone at local car events to building a full-fledged photography business. What excites me the most is how photography allows me to constantly learn and grow while connecting with people who share the same passion.

Getting to where I am today definitely wasn’t easy. There were many challenges along the way, especially at the beginning. Balancing my passion with the business side of things was a big hurdle, but learning from mentors, such as Brian Nguyen, Jose Ramirez, Louie Galvez, Vic Clark, and Gabe Xavier, helped me overcome those challenges. They not only shared valuable technical knowledge but also helped me stay inspired and motivated when things got tough.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of community and collaboration. No matter how skilled you are, you can always learn from others and grow together. I’ve also learned to be patient and trust the process, even when it feels like progress is slow. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but perseverance and a constant willingness to learn go a long way.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my photography is more than just a business—it’s a reflection of my passion and the connections I’ve made along the way. I hope my work inspires others to follow their passions and never stop learning, no matter where they are on their journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As far as places I would definitely take them to the museum district. A trip to the museum of fine arts and natural science. A trip to Post Houston and the Buffalo bayou. Seismique, Hone Run Dugout and an escape room would be on the list. However food and drinks is where it’s at. A trip down Belaire, there are so many food options. But off the top Seoulside Wings, OhmyGogi, and Bonchon. To get that morning coffee going The Cuppo, and Land of a Thousand Hills. Oh and we cannot forget late night snacks Dripped Birria, the Rice Box, and Voodoo Doughnuts. As far as drinks Houston has some amazing bars Truck Yard and 8th Wonder are always a hit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people I would credit for my success. I began my journey in automotive photography with Brian Nguyen and Jose Ramirez. From there, I participated in several photo walks and group events hosted by Louie Galvez and others, including Vic Clark, where we could all learn and practice together. Along the way, I met Gabe Xavier, who has since become a long-time friend. I learned a lot from him, and we were able to bounce creative ideas off each other, which greatly influenced my growth as a photographer. Just to name a few.
