We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Browarek & Lauren Beckemeyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather Browarek & Lauren Beckemeyer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Our most important factor behind our success is being able to take our clients vision add in our experience and knowledge to create a one-of-a kind image for our clients can treasure forever.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The most important factor behind our success is being able to take our client’s vision and add our experience and knowledge to create a one of a kind image our clients will treasure for years to come. We love when clients come to us with an idea and we are able to develop that idea into a full concept. We help with everything from sourcing wardrobe, scouting new locations and finding unique props pre session to helping families print and hang their artwork. One of the most unique things about our photography business is that there are two of us. We love to push each other creatively and our partnership as well as friendship has only strengthened in the last five years of business. No where does our partnership shine as bright as when we arrive to a photo session and things are not as we expected – the tall beautiful grass was mowed, it rained and now all the flowers that were there just yesterday are gone, it’s an overcast day and the light is nonexistent. We take a moment, walk around and then excitedly begin speaking to each other in hurried half-sentences, building off each other’s ideas, solving problems but never settling. This is when we have made some of our favorite images! We have learned how to offer our clients a comfortable, stress-free environment by letting them see our true excitement for our work and our candid friendship. Every session we ask our clients to try new poses and do incredibly silly things with us, they trust us as they step out of their comfort zone and we want them to know we are right there with them. Having clients leave their sessions telling us how much fun they had is a huge win for us! After our work is done we want the artwork hanging on the walls in their home to not only be beautiful images but remind them of happy memories as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We like places we can gather in large groups, which is hard to come by these days. We love to entertain at home and stay connected to our family, friends and neighbors and because our favorite hangouts are…anywhere they allow a few loud kids we would have to have a crawfish boil or barbecue at home. A cooler with some No Label beers and Topo Chico would be around and there would be kids running, playing football and riding bikes until way too late. Recently we have rediscovered drive-in movies where you can enjoy popcorn in the back of your truck or your own outdoor chairs. You can bundle up in blankets and bring hot coco from home on a cold night or bring pizza and a bottle of wine for a date night. We also love exploring the parks and nature trails around us and bringing along our camera of course to capture all our new discoveries. We have always wanted to kayak down Buffalo Bayou on a guided tour, it seems like a great way to see Houston from a new perspective! Lunch at Karbach Brewing afterwards seems like a no brainer. Our favorite art space in Houston to visit is The Menil Collection. We love going on our own but also love bringing our children because it is beautiful, free and just the right size. They have an amazing permanent collection but there’s always new exhibits to explore so no two visits are ever the same. Make sure to check out Richmond Hall, a permanent installation by Dan Flavin, just around the corner. It is a separate building but still part of the Menil collection. You can even pack your own picnic and enjoy the immaculate lawn around the main building when the weather is nice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We definitely have to thank our families! Our children have spent hours in front of a camera lens for us as we have honed our skills, tested new locations and checked lighting over and over. They have hiked down paths, climbed trees, splashed in water, picked berries, you name it – all in the name of getting that shot! Our husbands have moved endless props, held equipment and driven clients for us all with a smile on their faces. They recognize that look in our eye as we drive past a beautiful field and know that yes, we really do want to turn around and take some photos. Our family gives us the creative freedom to grow and explore an art form we love so much.
