We had the good fortune of connecting with Heloisa Evangelista and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heloisa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s a passion born when I was still a little girl. As a teen I started to do makeup on my friends for events and now I am a professional makeup artist. I love makeup because makes others feel beautiful and help them find a powerful and resilient person that sometimes they don’t know how beautiful they are.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a makeup artist my artistry makes me unique as my technique, my focus on the industry.
Makeup is a therapy for me and the moment I’m on set is a reminder of that and my happy zone.
It’s has been a long hard journey to get where I am. It’s a very competitive market and when I didn’t have much on my portfolio and experience the doors don’t open easy for opportunities, but I went after photographers, models, agencies that could help me to show my work and skills and help me build my portfolio. Social Media brought me many clients and jobs. After I emailed the big agencies for opportunities to assist for jobs and fashion shows for few years after several no I never gave up, kept working on grow my techniques and experience, now I finally have been seeing from them and I have done work with big name designers on fashion week, worked with with brands such as Dior.
Giving up has never been an option, battle for your dreams hard and make them real.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love when my friends visit because we go to places we look. First stop is coffee at Angelina’s Bakery, eat a good American burger. We love to go as much beauty stores to find new products, buy makeup. Visit the high line and the Starbucks reserve at the end is a must stop every time. Visit museums, discover more about artists and history is our favorite think to go. Met museum is a must stop every time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize me in first place for not giving up on my dream job and passion. To my husband and kids that been by my side even in low times. To my mentor who helped me find my path in the industry.
