We had the good fortune of connecting with Huma Kou Gyasi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Huma Kou, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing a lot of our customers and or outsiders are unaware of is ALL of our bags are handmade in Nigeria of West Africa.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
LMA boutique started by doing local vending events in Houston and surrounding areas. We then saw how we were growing and created a website. Getting to where we are now was not easy at all. A lot of late nights, investing in products that sometimes didn’t come out how we expected.

One thing I would say I am most proud of is how persistent we are! We never give up, we kept creating new products and taking risks. I am very proud to announce our purse line, which was just added!! Each Purse is made Unique for our customers; that’s why There’s only one made for each collection. When Purchased, You will be the ONLY ONE with that bag! How exciting is that?

One of the Challenges I would say is having vendors overseas. Due to the six hours time difference, I see how hard it is at times. For example, we are six hours behind Nigeria, so finding a time that works for us and our vendor is sometimes difficult because my mom works, I’m in school and the vendor is sometimes asleep when we are free to communicate.

I’ve learned nothing comes easy in life. This is something my mom is always telling me. I’m also learning there’s no such thing as “Too young or too old”. I am thirteen years old and running a business!!

I want the world to know, that I am passionate about LMA boutique. I also want the world to know, LMA boutique is not just a Jewelry or purse line. I want to educate everyone about Africa and the beauty that comes from it; which is why all of our products are Named after a State in Africa, a City, a cultural Name, or something simple that reminds me of where I come from.

Another thing I would like for the world to know is, I have a lot of say in this business, lol. I think sometimes people think It’s all my Mother because of my age; however she allows me to make decisions, every interview we do I’m usually the one talking and or taking pictures, I’m sitting beside her now as we answer these questions, lol!!

LMA boutique is a Luxury African accessory brand that is taking over!
“When Culture, Meets Fashion”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start off by taking her to Hanks Crawfish on Highway 6 and a PHO place on Bellair that I absolutely love. Coming from New Jersey I never had crawfish or PHO before, once we moved six years ago and I tasted crawfish and PHO, I fell in love.

Places I would take my Best Friend would be; Cosmic air, Main Event, Taphone Texas, Memorial Mall, and Bear Creek Skating rink. We would do all these things with my four best friends from school.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mommy, My mom does all the behind the scene work. She’s the work contacting people and making sure all of our social media are running how they should. Between, Work, being a Mom, and running two businesses of her own; she is doing a great job managing LMA boutique as well.
