Meet Iesheia Ayers-Wilson | Trustee for Lone Star College & I have my transportation company

We had the good fortune of connecting with Iesheia Ayers-Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iesheia, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Carverdale on the Northwest side of town in Houston. Where I am from is a low income black community. With my upbringing I come from a two working parents. My dad was a Truck Driver and my mom worked for Southwestern Bell (BellSouth back in the day). Growing up it was five of us and so I am no stranger to being responsible and pulling my weight. I was a latch key kid so making sure I stayed on the right track and did the right thing was the only way I knew. Helping others as well because most of my friends only had a one parent household or parent was not able to work. My older siblings are ten and eight years older than me so when they left home it was my responsibility to take on the role as the older sibling to my younger brother.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart in my position is I am focused on helping students be their best self. I am most proud of the students that I have helped get started and actually finish their degree and/ or certification. I got to my position from hard work, dedication and integrity. I also have help a lot of people get to where they are before it was my turn. No it was not easy, but I had people who believed I could do it. I have been cheated out of several spots, but I am a firm believer that God does everything for a reason and in his timing. The most important lesson I have learned over the years is that always have integrity no matter what the situation. I want people to know that I really do have an open door policy and that you can reach out to me and I will try my best to get you the help you need. If I can’t I will find someone who can help you. I am and introvert/ extrovert.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest I am such a home body. I don’t hang out too much in the streets, but when I do hang out it is with my family. So much is going on in the world home is always best for me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank God because it is truly only by his grace that I am where I am. My husband who without him I truly could not have gotten this far. I want to thank him from being patient with me especially during my campaign for Houston City Council District A(2019) and Lone Star College (2020) and I want to Thank him for always believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I would also like to thank my family and close friends who I talk to everyday about life and making sure I am on the right track.
