We had the good fortune of connecting with Iris Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iris, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business simply just came from me doing my friend’s makeup, my makeup, and family makeup. When I would do their makeup I always enjoyed how they felt after. Then I went through a period of not working and I decided to turn that into a form of income.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other artists is that I truly want to use my platform as a way to help women. I want to give women a little more confidence when they sit in my chair, I want them to feel more feminine and more powerful. I will be whatever my client needs me to be at that time. I am most proud of when doing makeup sometimes my kids are present and they always make me feel good and make my clients feel even better with their sweet compliments. Makeup takes a lot of practice, so I would say practice has gotten me where I am today. I am still perfecting my craft and I have a long way to go till where I am want to be in my Artistry. Lessons I have learned is that my style of Artistry will not be for every woman and that’s ok. I had to remember that what sets me apart from other artists is I solely want Artistry by Iris to serve and help women so I trust that God will send me the perfect clientele and it will not always be my friends and family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow! I love to eat and just spending time with my person. My best friend is a more of a homebody like me so she would probably want me to cook for her. Her favorite food is pasta and she loves when I make her seafood pasta. We would binge watch some shows, eat some unhealthy snacks, and enjoy some wine. Since we both have kids we would take the kids outside and take them to the zoo, and enjoy a meal at the Rainforest Cafe. She also loves to shop so she’s going to want to go to the mall. I have always wanted to take her to Sunday brunch but with a Houston twist. So we would go to Five Central and experience Day Brunch to Day Partying.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Listen, all praises and glory goes to God because without him I would not have had the vision for Artistry by Iris. I will say though I want to give a shout-out to my husband Jaimell Daniels for always believing in me and continuously investing into me and my business. I want to give thanks to all my wonderful clients who have trusted me with their beautiful canvases and allowed me to enhance them. Thank you to my friend group for always being supportive but also giving me constructive criticism when I need it.
