We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivan Dimitrov and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ivan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Being family-owned shapes everything we do. IGD Plumbing & Air isn’t just a business—it’s something we built to represent our values: honesty, responsibility, and genuine care for the people we serve.

When we say community focused, we mean it literally. Our work puts us inside people’s homes during stressful moments, and we believe that comes with a responsibility to educate rather than pressure, and to help rather than upsell. Many of our customers tell us they feel comfortable and informed after we leave, and that trust is something we work hard to earn and protect.

Our commitment to the community goes beyond service calls. We also created Santa’s Mailbox, a nonprofit initiative that brings joy to local children and families during the holidays. What began as a simple idea has grown into an annual event supported by our team and local partners, allowing us to give back in a meaningful way.

At the end of the day, home services with genuine care means treating people the way we would want our own families treated—showing up prepared, being honest about options, and standing behind our work. When a business operates with integrity, the social impact becomes part of everyday operations, not just a separate effort.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What truly sets us apart is how deeply our business is woven into the community. There isn’t another home service company we know of that has a mailbox for children permanently placed in front of their office. Santa’s Mailbox isn’t a seasonal decoration—it’s a year-round symbol of care, hope, and giving.

Five years ago, we placed that mailbox outside our office with a simple intention: to remind children that their wishes matter and that kindness still exists. Last Christmas alone, that mailbox helped us deliver over 300 presents to local children. It has become a place where families stop by, children write letters, and the community comes together around something meaningful.

For us, it’s not about standing out—it’s about standing for something. Our business exists to serve, and Santa’s Mailbox is a reflection of that purpose in action.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever friends visit us from another country, we always start in the same place: our building and our office. Before sightseeing, we want them to understand our story—where we came from, what we built, and why we’re proud of it. It sets the tone for everything else.

After that, we take them to NASA Johnson Space Center. Houston is known for “Houston, we have a problem,” and we always joke that we’re in the same business—solving problems. Whether it’s a water heater, a tankless system, or an AC issue, that problem-solving mindset is something we deeply relate to and respect.

From there, we head into Downtown Houston to experience the energy of the city—good food, great people, and the mix of cultures that makes Houston special. We love walking around, grabbing food, and letting visitors feel how alive and diverse the city is.

A trip wouldn’t be complete without Galveston. We take them to the beach, enjoy seafood, slow things down a bit, and remind ourselves how close Houston is to the water and history.

To really understand Texas, we also visit George Ranch Historical Park. That’s where we tell the story of Texas—its roots, resilience, and independent spirit. It helps people understand why Texans are so proud of where they live.

By the end of the week, our friends don’t just feel like tourists—they feel connected. And we always tell them the same thing: once you’re a Texan, you’re always a Texan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
IGD Plumbing & Air is a family-owned plumbing and HVAC company built on faith, grit, and service. What sets us apart isn’t just the work we do, but the story and values behind it.

Twenty-two years ago, my wife and I arrived in the United States with a green card, two backpacks, two bags filled with English dictionaries, and just $1,200. We didn’t speak the language and didn’t know a single person. What we did have was faith, a dream, and the determination to work hard and build a meaningful life.

IGD Plumbing & Air was born from that leap of faith. The company wasn’t built overnight, and it certainly wasn’t easy. The early years were filled with long hours, uncertainty, learning through mistakes, and pushing forward even when things felt overwhelming. We overcame challenges by staying disciplined, being willing to learn, and holding tightly to our values—doing honest work, treating people fairly, and showing up with integrity every single day.

What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve earned. Many of our customers come back year after year and refer their friends and family, not because we’re the biggest or the loudest, but because they know we care and stand behind our work. We focus on education over pressure and long-term relationships over short-term wins.

As the business grew, so did our desire to give back. That’s how Santa’s Mailbox was created. What started as one mailbox and a simple wish to help a few children has grown into a year-round community initiative and an annual tradition that brings joy to hundreds of kids each Christmas. It’s one of the most meaningful extensions of what our business represents.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success isn’t about perfection or speed—it’s about consistency and purpose. Showing up every day, doing the right thing even when it’s hard, and using what you build to help others creates something lasting.

What I want the world to know about our brand is that we’re real people serving real families. Our story is an immigrant story, a family story, and a community story. To us, the American Dream isn’t just about owning something—it’s about having the freedom to dream, to build, and to lift others up along the way. We’re grateful for the opportunity to do that every day.
