We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Beauty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to make a platform that made women feel beautiful and it started with working out. Activewear became my first branded product and I plan to branch out with much more for the ladies!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am proud of not giving up and certainly excited about what’s coming in the near future. I will continue to push myself above all limits. I want to build a name for myself and be a person that others can look up to. It’s not about money for me, I want a sense of purpose! I can’t say it was easy and I can’t say it’s hard. I haven’t reached the hard part yet, just at the beginning. It took a lot of strategizing to make sure everything worked well. I’ve learned not to rush, what will be for you will be. When I first launched my business in April of last year, I was so happy I rushed it all. I had to post-pone my launching after I put out a launch date. I felt as if I failed but I just needed to take my time. Everything fell into place and not (needs to be now) it’s running smoothly. I would want people to know it’s not about popularity for me but to be a person who can help others achieve their dreams. BeautyMe LLC will be a place to shop, a place to get mentorship and just a place women can thrive. There will be many opportunities to look forward to, I’m just getting started!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was hanging out with me for a week, we would definitely go to Captain Seafood to get their seafood combo with shrimp, crab and crawfish. We’d go hang out at my favorite little spot called ‘The Corner’, it’s literally on the corner and have the best music. We’d probably go check out the Galleria Mall for a little shopping and mall food is what I call it. I love to dress really nice for dinner, so we’d go to Davis St.! They have the best setting, RnB music, food and drinks. The place was just an overall vibe! I am a huge foodie so we would be everywhere. I’m more than sure one of those nights would be inside. I am big on cooking and making drinks at home. We’d have the best time!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner, Brittany Turner has pushed me in many ways. When I felt discouraged and when I thought I wouldn’t be any good. She’s helped me start my business and I can’t thank her more. She’s been a driving force for me and I appreciate that!
