Meet Jack Nailor | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Nailor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
By the time I officially formed my LLC in 2023, I had been pursuing my passion for wildlife and travel for well over 15 years. While I undoubtedly aspired to monetize my social media page – I had no timeline, no plan, no revenue, and a disgusting amount of annual travel expenses. I fully lacked a short-term business plan. What I did have was a well-thought out vision for the future. I strongly believe that my life purpose is to share the world’s natural beauty in a way that inspires others to appreciate it as well. My promise to my customers is that I will use at least 50% of my profits to purchase tracts of land where sensitive animals or ecosystems may exist in an effort protect these areas from the ongoing threat of poaching, politics, and development. I would reinvest my proceeds into each individual property, establishing ecotourism opportunities that are profitable enough to prevail against other industries such as logging and poaching. I am nowhere near accomplishing this goal – but is the driving force behind my motivation to brave the risks and challenges of starting a business.
Up until recently, I viewed content creation as merely a hobby or far-fetched dream, not a source of income. When one of my rattlesnake videos went viral, I learned about licensing, and simultaneously, Instagram (finally) offered me the ability to monetize my page. Albeit less than $20 per month in revenue, I was officially on their payroll!! Something about the reality of Instagram paying me clicked… and it dawned upon me that I can do this. I had never truthfully invested in my business from a financial standpoint. I was dumping my heart, soul, money, and countless amounts of time into roadtrips… but not not in a way that was intentionally focused on business growth. So… one day I chose to dive into the deep end. I have never been one for planning… I just get up and go. “Figure it out on the fly” is a motto that has guided many decisions in my life, for better or worse. Starting a business was no exception. I am still far from profitable… and my day-job consumes about 90% of my time each year. However, I am un-phased. I am doing what I love, when I can, while making enough money to buy myself a snack on each roadtrip! My belief is that persistence and passion will pay off in the long run. Nothing can steer me off course from accomplishing my goals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart form other artists and wildlife creatives is that I am neither an artist nor a wildlife expert. Far from it. I consider myself a regular guy who happens to be blessed with enough energy and passion to make small sacrifices that allow me to do what I love. I hope that my surprisingly decent photography, writing, videography, and educational wildlife content will prove to others that you don’t need to be “qualified” to do what you love. You do not need to take a photography class to be a photographer. You do not need to be an expert to educate. You do not need to be perfect to lead by example. You just have to get up and try. You’d be amazed how things fall into place when you just get up and DO… rather than sit back and plan or study. If you have a passion – pursue it! Start somewhere and learn as you go… even if it isn’t exactly what you envisioned. That is the difference between my Art and others… I am not an artist, I am just one of y’all! The only thing I have that others may not… is the conviction to pursue my passion, and the willingness to pay it forward by “giving back” to mother nature and society alike. My art isn’t special, it is just my art, and I hope people support my business for the cause, rather than for the cool artwork itself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friends on the following greater Houston are itinerary…
1. Eat a Pizza
2. Photograph Timber Rattlesnakes at Sam Houston National Forest
3. Kayak along the Spring Creek Greenway
4. Photograph Alligators at Brazos Bend State Park
5. Ask my friend, what city do you want to go to next? and then just drive there
6. Eat another Pizza

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents. While I honestly cannot credit either of them with sparking my passion for wildlife, they have always supported me in doing what I love. I remember at in 4th grade, I asked my dad if I could get a skateboard, die my hair pink, and get a mohawk cut. He said… “sure man… if you think that’s cool then go for it”. I would like to mention that I never got that haircut LOL but the point I am trying to make is that my parents allowed me to be creative, make my own mistakes, and pursue my own interests no matter how weird or dangerous they were.
