We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand has is a hard one to answer. Some might say it’s the story of how this came to be a business when it was never supposed to be. And I have stuck to that when asked. But honestly, I have worked very hard over the last 3 years to perfect the bow tie, keeping the new styles coming, and how it fits the pet. And most of all, making sure each bow tie is sturdy and made to last longer than big shelf bow ties. Over the last year I have made changes. Rebranded, if you will. That included adding a fun new logo, the dimensions of the bow ties, and new products to come!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are two things that set me apart from others. First the sturdiness of my bow ties. Most are washable. They are also made with extra care and steps to insure that they don’t lose their shape. The other thing is the sizing. Early on, potential customers would ask for different sizes to fit their pet. Being the people pleaser that I am, I decided to create many sizes to choose from. We now offer Teacup to 3 XL, depending on the fabric and pattern! Getting to where I am has not been easy. Most people don’t understand what they are buying until they have felt the products. It’s then that they see why the price points are what they are. I supposed that will always be the nature of this beast, selling the customer on what makes us different. One thing I want all to know is that no matter how much money I make (or don’t make) at this, i not only have so much fun, but I love to give back. I will always go back to the roots of The Bowfessional and help breast cancer patients. We now also fundraise and support my new 501c3 Nonprofit called You’re Invited. It’s an organization for bullied kids to know and feel invited to different outings and birthday parties. I hope to also bridge the gap between the bullies and the bullied. It’s all about education.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it hasn’t shown in how I have ran my company from the beginning, I tend to put the cart before the horse. I am still discovering Houston. So I would take the top off of my Jeep and blindly drive the city and find hidden treasures! I’m also a photographer, so I enjoy the simple things people walk past everyday.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have also added a new employee, my cousin, Nicole Plack. She is back in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. So when we don’t get the rare in person design fest, we video chat while creating! She is not only a driving force in creativity, but she helped me along when I was beginning all of this and had no clue how to do it. I’m so blessed that I get to work with my best friend!
