We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Avokhani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaime, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband and I started our own vegan food business in 2018, this decision happened roughly 3 years after we decided to go vegan. It was during our transition to veganism that we realized that there were very limited option during that time for us in terms of dining out or purchasing already prepared meals. We had a lot of big ideas of different food items that we wanted to create, but without the cruelty to animals. We decided that we would begin our journey into starting our own business by doing pop-up events. At these pop-up events we served different vegan food creations ranging from breakfast sandwiches, lunch items, to pizzas. The biggest reason behind us starting our own vegan food business was to bring an awareness to the community that vegan food is not only “rabbit food”, but a variety of flavorful foods. We wanted to show people that they could maintain a vegan diet without the loss of flavor or texture.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We own and operate Pythagoras Conscious Food Philosophy, it is the first ALL VEGAN restaurant in west Houston. We are proud to be serving a variety of flavorful and complex foods that are not only delicious but most importantly cruelty free! We opened our doors in late January 2022, and since then we have expanded out menu to include pizzas, wings, sandwiches, burgers, Persian inspired dishes, and many other items. We have a very large menu that can be a little overwhelming, especially for vegans who are used to only having 1 or 2 options at a restaurant. Vegans and non vegans are sure to find something that they will enjoy on our menu. We were just awarded “The Best Vegan Restaurant of 2022” by the City of Sugar Land
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Its so hard to pick some of my favorite spots in the city, since the restaurant has opened there has not been much time to go our and explore the city that we used to. If was to go and visit place, we would for sure visit some of the vegan restaurants around the city (Korny Vibes, Cascabel, Loving Hut, Chef Kenny’s). I would also take them to the Montrose area and also the different museums that we have in our city. If the weather was nice we would head out to Galveston and visit the beach!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to shout out the love, support, and encouragement from our family and friends! Especially my parents (Laure and Karl), without their investment into our dream and also their support throughout our day to day life, we would not be able to run and operate the first vegan restaurant within Sugar Land, Texas!.
