Meet Jamal Gaylor | Serial entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamal Gaylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had an idea of working for myself and creating something bigger than myself. At first Reckless Ambition was just to create cool designs on garments but overtime it’s become more than that. We have built a community that’s ambitious about there goals. People really resonate with the message. So we are really creating a great business that’s going to be around for a long time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like I’ve got where I am today by watching the ones who inspired me. They layer down a blueprint and I really had to put in the hard work. I love that it hasn’t been a easy journey because if it was easy I wouldn’t have the same love for it. Overcoming adversity in the business world has only made me stronger. One lesson I’ve learned is to split emotion and business up a lot. Knowing that has taught me to use criticism as a tool instead of being offended.

What we want you to know about Reckless Ambition is that we represent a bold,adventurous, and confident approach to fashion and fitness. The willingness to take risks and push the boundaries, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, style, and performance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places change with my mood but Houston has a lot of pretty cool places. I would take friends & family to a spot called the post downtown because all of the food that they offer and the vibe there is so relaxing. Hopefully I would take them on a Saturday when the car culture has their car show because my Dad and I like those kinds of things. Another place I would take them is North Italia, their service is great and their food is just amazing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost my wife , Logan, should get recognition because without her I wouldn’t have continued to do what I do. My family as well because they have supported me through a lot. There are a few books , to many to write but self help entrepreneur books have really shaped my mindset to become the entrepreneur I am today.
