We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Pettigrew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Actually, moving from a commission salon to a suite was a very difficult decision. The risk involved is not knowing if your clients will follow you to a new location and you’re now in charge of paying for everything associated with the business instead of just showing up to work and everything being there for you. But there is no reward without risk and it was the best decision for my mental health and for my family.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love being a hairstylist. Getting to give people confidence again through their hair is the best part of the job. But more than that I get to create lasting relationships with all of my clients and feel like we’re really just friends hanging out during our appointments.
Creating a space where my clients can talk to me about anything was really important to me. Leaving not only feeling beautiful because of your hair but feeling lighter on the inside because you were able to vent about whatever issue was bothering you that day is what I want for everyone that sits in my chair.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lucky for me all of my closest friends live in the area! We are always down for some queso and margaritas but we occasionally venture to other places. Me personally, I love visiting museums specifically the museum of natural science in Houston and of course I love the Houston Zoo!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband was the biggest supporter in me starting a business. His constant encouragement and support of me is what gave me the courage to do this. Him as well as my entire friend group were giving me contstant support, and words of encouragement through the entire process and I couldn’t be more thankful for them!
