We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Simon Sr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After taking some time reflecting on what is most important here’s what’s needed for me.
Flexibility: I can set my own hours and work from wherever I choose, allowing for a better work-life balance.
Autonomy: I could have complete control over my business decisions, allowing me to pursue my visions and goals without needing approval from others.
Personal Fulfillment: Building something from the ground up can be incredibly rewarding and allow me to pursue all of my passions without limits.
Creative Freedom: As a business owner I can innovate and implement ideas without limitations, allowing for personal expression in my work.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What truly sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to personalized service and community connection. I believe that grooming is not just about aesthetics; it’s about building relationships and understanding each client’s unique needs. I focus on creating a welcoming environment where clients feel valued and heard. Additionally, my continuous pursuit of education and innovation in techniques and products ensures that I provide the highest quality service, keeping my clients looking and feeling their best.
I’m incredibly proud of the community I’ve built around my brand. Seeing my clients come back time and time again and knowing that I’ve played a part in boosting their confidence is incredibly fulfilling. I’m also excited about the opportunities I’ve had to mentor aspiring barbers, sharing my knowledge and passion for the craft. It’s rewarding to see others grow and succeed in their careers.
My journey began with a deep passion for grooming, but it was anything but easy. I started as an apprentice, working long hours and honing my skills while juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet. There were many late nights and early mornings, and at times, I faced self-doubt and financial strain. However, my determination to succeed and love for the craft kept me going. I invested in my education, attending workshops and seminars, and sought mentorship from seasoned professionals.
I overcame challenges by maintaining a positive mindset and viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth. Surrounding myself with a supportive network of fellow entrepreneurs and mentors was invaluable. I also learned the importance of adaptability; when faced with challenges, I focused on finding solutions rather than dwelling on the problems. Each obstacle taught me resilience and creativity in my approach to business.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of authentic relationships. Building trust with my clients has been a cornerstone of my success. Additionally, I’ve realized that continuous learning is vital in this industry; trends and techniques evolve, and staying informed helps me serve my clients better. Lastly, I’ve learned the importance of self-care and work-life balance; to be at my best for my clients, I must also take care of myself.
I want the world to know that my brand represents more than just grooming; it embodies a lifestyle of confidence, self-expression, and community. Each haircut is a collaboration driven by the individual’s unique personality and style. My story is one of perseverance, passion, and the belief that through hard work and dedication, anyone can achieve their dreams. I aim to inspire others to embrace their journeys, no matter how challenging they may seem, and to understand the profound impact of personal grooming on one’s self-esteem and overall well-being. -Butta Blends

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to recognize TJ Malveaux for setting the bar high enough for me to stay encouraged and engaged in becoming a barber professionally. He seen a talent in me years before I could accept it. I’m forever grateful to have the lasting support & mentorship from a personal friend; also someone in the same industry. @tjmalveaux
