We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmin McGee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been a service oriented person. From the time I was a child, I loved helping people and listening to people. So, being in service to community as a Yoga teacher, space holder, and Death Doula feels natural and even necessary. This is my soul work.

As a Yoga teacher, I have the great honor to guide amazing human beings through a Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, as well as a Yoga Nidra practice. I offer a weekly in-person class at Indigo Moons in Spring Branch. I also hold private, virtual classes as requested. These particular forms of Yoga offer each person the time and space to go inward with the hope that they can be fully present with themselves. I am simply the guide offering suggestions throughout the class. I encourage the participants to make each practice their own – listening to their bodies and giving themselves what it is they need in that moment. The hope is that the practitioner feels empowered in these interoceptive practices to do their work of healing and processing in their own way and in their own time.

As a trained and certified Death Doula, I have the incredible privilege to hold space for and support individuals facing or preparing for their death or the death of a family member or loved one. I offer my guidance in creating care plans or end-of-life plans for anyone wishing to get their affairs in order whether they are healthy or facing terminal illness and death.

Whether as a teacher or a Death Doula, I want to offer my services in a holistic, peaceful manner in order to be a support to anyone who needs my help.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a trauma-informed, registered Yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. I have over 500 teacher training hours. I completed my teacher training through Ashe Yoga School based out of Houston, TX. I teach Yin Yoga, fully supported Restorative Yoga, and I guide Yoga Nidra. The intention of each of my Yoga offerings is to help facilitate peace for the amazing people in my care by resting and restoring individually in a customized, private class or collectively with community. I teach in-person classes locally in Houston. I also teach private classes virtually via Zoom.

I am also a graduate from the Going with Grace End-of-Life Training Program, and I am a member of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance. My intention for my end-of-life Care & Planning offering is to help anyone in community imagine, curate, and prepare with grace their most peaceful and easeful passing. I hope to offer my clients, their loved ones, and family members peace of mind and support. I support and encourage community to live their best lives with a sense of freedom and preparedness.

I also provide community a free monthly gathering called Peace with Death Cafe. This is a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental, inclusive community offering. The intention for this gathering is to bring peaceful awareness to and have open, honest discourse about death and dying in order to live our best lives. This is done in a positive, uplifting manner all whilst enjoying delicious treats with tea, coffee, or your favorite beverage. This offering is a hybrid virtual (Zoom) and in-person offering so community from all over can participate. My hope is for community to feel seen and heard, and to leave the gathering feeling more at ease and peaceful.

All of these offerings humble me and I feel incredibly privileged to offer them to community. It is an honor to be in service to my community in life and in death. I started Snow Poppy Yoga to be a source of peace and love for the people I help and serve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I can be found at Indigo Moons in Spring Branch each week. It’s the absolute best local metaphysical business filled with beautiful crystals and amazing people who run the store. Misty, the shop owner, is so knowledgeable. She holds Reiki sessions in store and there is a classroom where classes of all sorts are held.

I also love walking the paths at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center off of Woodway Drive in Houston, TX. I love feeling like I’m walking through a forested, bayou area in the middle of the city.

One of my favorite restaurants is Cafe Caspian off of Westheimer in Houston, TX. The best Persian food in my honest opinion. And if you want amazing fillet fajitas, I recommend going to El Tiempo Cantina off of Washington and TC Jester in Houston, TX. BEST fajitas – hands down!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my beloved partner, Brendon, who was my first cheerleader and biggest support when I was considering becoming a Yoga teacher and Death Doula. He was solidly in my corner from Day 1 – encouraging me to reach out to my teachers and inquire about going into Yoga Teacher Training and into professional end-of-life doula training. He saw the potential in me even when I was wavering and unsure if I could do it. He believed in me. He had faith in me. And he has been with me every step of the way.
