We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine McClendon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from The Big Peach better known as Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up in a single parent household my mother instilled in me that there was nothing that I couldn’t do if I prayed about it, put the work behind it and put my mind to it. I expressed to my mother that I had a passion to model when I was 13 years old because I loved taking pictures of myself and they always came out so pretty. My mother took me to an agency. I had the height but my weight from the waist down did not fit the runway figure. At that moment I knew I had to find a different route for my passion. As kid in Atlanta, I always loved going to the skating rinks. My favorite rinks growing up were Skate Towne, Cascade Family Skating and Sparkles. They played all of my urban music with a good mix of R & B and gospel. I literally fell in love with the uniqueness of the different moves that I could do and that is where the idea was born. Allow me to further introduce myself as the first hottest roller skate model in the nation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently work as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and I love helping others by telling them what medications are used for, getting the Pharmacists to clarify what medications interacts with another and explaining how much a medication cost with the patient’s insurance. After I graduated from Talladega College with a bachelor’s degree in science, I wanted to make a difference. I started working at CVS Pharmacy and earned my certification with the on-job training. The certification test was very challenging but I passed the test. While working in the pharmacy I learn something new everyday just as I would as I learn new skate moves at the skating rink. Becoming the first roller skate model is a passion and I want the world to know me as the hottest first skate model in the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you are in Atlanta you have to try the Flying Biscuit Atlanta, The Georgia Aquarium, The World of Coca Cola and Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband for always believing in me, my mother for always encouraging me, my brother for always supporting me and all of my friends for motivating me to continuously set goals and to make it happen.
