We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Neely and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is that no one will believe in me unless I believe in me first. If I don’t believe that my product or service could really help others achieve their goals, no one else will. So, I’ve got to fight through the imposter syndrome and self-doubt because that can show up in the way I do business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called, The Professional Cheerleader. I help women achieve ultimate confidence in order to tackle their pro cheer dance audition whether it’s in a professional league like the NBA, NFL or NHL or semi-pro leagues. I am a former NFL Cheerleader and captain for the Panthers TopCats and have always noticed each audition season that people would come to me for advice. So, during my last season as a TopCat, I decided to get serious with the business. It started as an online business with courses and bootcamps in 2021, leading me to create my signature course, Becoming The Professional Cheerleader that takes an aspiring pro through the entire process of what it takes to make a pro cheerleading dance team. This course sets me apart from other pro dance programs because of the online portion, allowing me to reach people from all over the world to help in their training. I am most proud of the community I’ve built, the people I’ve helped get on teams and my podcast listenership through the years. My podcast is called The ImPerfect Cheerleader, available on all platforms and is about tips and stories that have shaped me and others to reach their goals whether it’s pro cheer goals or other related goals. Since 2021, I have brought more in-person elements and experiences to my business including private programs and in-person group classes and programs. I absolutely love helping women improve through dance technique, style, showmanship, performance quality and choreography retention. It has not been an easy road at all and some of the people I thought would support me have not. However, I have learned to accept that everyone has their own things going on and that even though there may be people who don’t support or accept what I am doing, I must move with tenacity and perseverance. I’ve realized that worrying about what others think can be a distraction from the ultimate goal, which is to help as many women achieve confidence and the know-how to make pro teams. I want the world to know that my brand is authentic because how I show up is as my truest self, and that’s how I want my clients to show up. I know there’s myths out there about how a pro cheer dancer should be and look like. It can be daunting and turn some away from even trying to be on a team. My main mission is to help women improve their skills while showing up as their authentic selves, and I am proud to say I’ve stayed true to that since my businesses’ inception.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow! I am from and live in lovely Charlotte, NC. I have so many places I’d take them. First off we have to go to a Panthers game since I am a fan, the games are so fun, and I used to work for the team as a dancer. The food scence in Charlotte is amazing, so I’d take her to some of my favorite spots like Yunta for peruvian food, Haberdish, Supperland, Puerta and Saku for sushi. For brunch I’d take her to Uptown Yolk, Easy Like Sunday or Snooze! We have to hang out at Camp North End on a beautiful day and visit some of the shops in south end. For a night out, we’re going to Spice, Hive or Merchant and Trade. Also, going to a NASCAR race or the NASCAR Hall of Fame is a must. NASCAR is big in Charlotte! To that end we can also hit up some parks like Freedom Park and have a picnic or go to the Levine Museum or Mint Museum in uptown, Carowinds theme park, and catch a concert at NC Music Factory. I love my city and would enjoy showing all of my out of town friends around.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mentor, Kevin Hyrams. He has always believed in me from day 1 and continues to pour into me and my success. He’s helped me in so many ways, gotten me connected to people that could help me move forward and is always willing to lend a helping hand in my professional career. I also want to thank Jennifer Morilla who has helped as a business coach. She has really helped me move through the mindset blockers that come with starting a business, and has pushed me into gear with setting up the systems and processes I need to succeed in business. Additionally, the book “Business Made Simple” really helped with how to form my business and has given me the strategies to succeed. Lastly, I’d like to thank online educator, Christina Galbato who I found during the pandemic. She really gave me the courage to move forward with online business services and strategies.
