We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Payton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balancing a full-time 9-5 while also running a business has taught me that I am not as balanced as I thought I was before. I had to learn to give myself grace as far as time management. Balancing both can cause a serious case of FMO (fear of missing out). Balancing friend groups, and my own self-care time. I chose a day that I close my books and take off my 9-5 at least once a month. Calendars have become my best friend. It allows me to properly plan.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Not only am I an entrepreneur, I am a full-time professional in Higher Education. Balancing both has not been an easy road. Being a professional gives me a chance to always have a backup plan. Time management has been my biggest hurdle. Managing my day-to-day task while maintaining various relationships and being there for my clients. I overcame this by putting ME first. I would have to ask myself do I have the capacity to handle it all, do I have a support system that understands. I’ve learned that it is my support system that keeps me going. They don’t want to see me overwhelmed and they step when needed. I had to learn that you can’t be everything to everybody. Once you learn that, everything goes smoothly. I want people to know that my brand represents ME in its entirety. Self-less, giving, & understanding.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends and I are all foodies, we love trying new spots in the city. Lately, it has been food parks like Almeda Food Truck Park, POST Houston, catching shows at the Improv, and visiting the Culture Refined Concerts with their various themes like Ladies Night, Houston Night, etc. I personally feel like I am in the era of discovering Houston. Although I was born and raised here, I feel like there is something new to do and explore every week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout to my village, which includes my family, close friends, and believe it or not my CLIENTS. I started this solo journey back in February of 2023. It has been because of my village that I have seen the growth in JazzE Esthetics in just a few short months. They are my reason to keep going even on the days when I ask myself am I doing too much too soon. My village has been so supportive. They understand my tired days, my excited days, my giving days, etc. With my village, I was able to host a successful back-to-school drive. Supplies were donated to the youth of Fifth Ward, Houston, Tx.
