We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Studway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?

The most difficult decision I have had to make is sacrificing a stable 9 to 5 income to pursue my dream job— launching my mental health agency. My decision was difficult because my traditional job gave me a substantial amount of income and more money than I would’ve typically made in this profession. Also, because I was working at a managed care organization with people with individuals impacted by Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and persons with disabilities, it allowed me to gain a ton of experience that is usually hard to come by. However, I knew it was time to shift my career, so I asked God to guide me. As a result, I stepped out on faith, leaped, and I haven’t looked back since.

What should our readers know about your business?
I founded Sisters In Sync & Associates (SIS & Associates) to help individuals in their mental health journeys. We are a group mental health agency that supports people of color, focusing on Black women. I believe what sets us apart is being able to work with those from disadvantaged communities and debunk the myth of being a “strong black woman” and the need to do everything and be everything to everybody. Getting to where I am today took much work. It involved a lot of prayer, dedication, commitment, and consistency. I had to learn the power of having a team to handle clients and help build my agency. This included working with business consultants, a social media and marketing manager, and an assistant to ensure that my backend systems ran properly and could handle the traffic of this agency, not just where we are today but for the future growth spurts to come. To overcome the challenges, I remain focused on my why and would not have it any other way. The biggest lesson I learned on this path is that the most challenging part is starting. Once started, it does not have to be perfect. I want the world to know that despite having a physical disability, I have been blessed to overcome every obstacle that has been placed in front of me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to some of my favorite places, such as Cooper’s Hawk, Fogo de Chao, and Ruth Chris. We would spend time with my family and friends, watching movies and eating good home-cooked meals. I am a homebody, so we would play games, order food, and reminisce about our time together.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to thank God for placing me in a position where I can serve others. Secondly, my mother also deserves the credit for always supporting me in my endeavors and never setting limits on me, and last but not least, my husband for always being supportive and understanding of where I am currently in my business and the effort it takes to continue the growth.
