We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Kane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started playing i was always told you gotta play metal or cover music if you want to make it or have people notice you and something about that just didn’t sit right. I wanted to play some loud original Rock n roll! And I’m not shitting on metal, I love metal but just not what I want to play all the time & as for covers, I totally get it. If your looking for steady paying gig that’s cool, learn some tunes and hit up the local spots and get the cash! But that was definitely a big push to make us want to get serious and get out there and do our own thing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most excited for the new music coming out. We’re really stepping it up musically, visually and just all around. Getting where we are today was hard. going through all these crazy side gigs and singing all over the place, its still easy to feel like we are nowhere but I think it’s gonna always be like that no matter what. But the key is to never stop. I learned I gotta pace myself and not spread my self thin so much or let myself get distracted.eye on the prize everyday. We’re not stopping anytime soon!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a buddy or family in town we’d go get a big plate of nachos at the nearest spot (Sanchos or Chachos) and party up the rest of the night bar hopping or just party at home and start up the grill, add some some chicken wings in the mix and get a crucial bar b Q going!!! My cousins in Chicago always gets a big ass football pizza or we get beefs when we pass by on tour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To say there’s one person would be hard to say. My family and friends really have had my back through the thick of it all. If it wasnt for my folks and all my uncles encouragement and raising me the jams who knows what I’d be doing or if wasn’t for Nick Jive for believing in the vision from the beginning and us sticking together through all the line up changes and empty venues and going the occasional late night freak outs I think all musicians question themselves “what am I doing?” Why am I still doing this” going through those discouraging nights and coming out winning on the other end, there would be no jive if it wasn’t for us sticking together.
