We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Lee Villarreal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason Lee, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in south Texas, also known as the Rio Grande Valley, where I was raised by my parents and my maternal grandmother in a 1940’s home. We shared the home with multiple family members and the house barely measured 800 square feet. We had no air conditioning, no grand foyer, no butler’s pantry and certainly no pool. The house didn’t feature many amenities, but it was home because of the family under the roof and what they provided for me. Growing up from humble beginnings you are taught that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my real estate journey at the young age of 23 years old. I had the privilege of working at one of the top luxury brokers in all of Houston. Here I began to garnish the skills I learned to become successful in the luxury real estate industry. I started from the bottom, doing smaller tasks like single handedly dropping off signs to other realtor’s properties throughout Houston. I always told myself “Jason, soon you will be dropping off signs for your own listings.” I love the fact that I learned from the bottom and it has played an impactful role to who I am today.
I still hold the same values today, when I meet a client and we decide to stage their home free of charge, I am there with the mover’s moving furniture and décor from the mover’s truck to the third floor of a townhome. The little things are what separates a normal property on the market and when I list a home on the market. I provide all clients with the same level of service, listing or buying and regardless of the price of the home. I provide a client-first experience from beginning to end.
In the past decade I have represented buyers and sellers, garnering more than $250,000,000 in sales. I am exceptionally honored to have been recognized as “Top 200 agents in Houston based on Sales Volume” in early 2021.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Uptown district combines the best of urban living with the peaceful, cherished feeling of a neighborhood,” he says. “It’s full of charming, tree-lined streets off Post Oak along with leading commercial and retail developments, making it the best lifestyle district in Houston.”
Where to eat & drink
As a big foodie, Villarreal loves to take in as much of Uptown’s dining scene as possible. But his tried-and-true, go-to restaurant is North Italia.
“They use the best ingredients to create and serve consistently crave-worthy food,” he says. “From the moment I walk through their doors to the last scoop of their salted Caramel Budino at the end of a gratifying meal, you know you’re in good hands.”
He also frequents Willie G’s, a Galleria-area staple serving the freshest Gulf Coast seafood since 1981, along with Nobu for sushi (and the scene!), and we can’t forget about Ninfa’s for the gold standard in fajitas and handmade tamales.
Where to play
Memorial Park is a 1,500-acre urban wilderness and the crown jewel of Uptown. Villarreal mentions that the park sees an average of 10,000 runners daily, and that sometimes even includes Houston’s professional sports athletes and local celebrities.
What to see
Villarreal recommends Waterwall Park as a must-see. It is one of the city’s most beloved, iconic landmarks and a community centerpiece for visitors of all ages. “It’s definitely Instagram-worthy,” says Villarreal.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in my life that have helped me get to where I am today. It takes a village. A few people I would love to shoutout are Joe Belgara and Frank Salazar. Frank and Joe were extremely influential making me who I am today. Being friends of the family since as long as I can remember, they were kind enough to open their home when I was in college. Whether it was teaching me how to apply for school, apply for a job, or even tie a necktie, they have been a pillar to my accomplishments and I’m not sure where I would be without their guidance and support throughout the years.
