We had the good fortune of connecting with Ja’Vahn Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ja’Vahn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business Jay Beauty Co was, first what can I see myself doing long term and how could it not only benefit me but others as well. I feel like when I hear the words career, entrepreneur, and business I think about longevity. What can I see myself doing my whole life and not get tired of it? What do I enjoy? As I thought about that my dream was to always have my own cosmetic line or beauty bar. So, one day I was at my dead-end job and decided it was time. I have always wanted to make this big step but being afraid was holding me back. Seeing so many other young business owners thrive inspired me even more to start my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the small business owner of Jay Beauty Co and I am looking forward to one day expanding my brand and creating content.

What sets me apart from others is I am all about making others feel good about themselves no matter their circumstances. As a female we have our days and me personally makeup and self-care activities just make me feel better.

I am excited about relaunching new products soon and providing my customers with quality products they love. A year ago I took a chance and learned a lot.

Starting a business was not easy for me at first, I was’t sure where to start, should I keep my job, and what did my financial situation need to be. I spent many nights researching and taking in tips from other businesses owners and that helped me to get a understanding.

I am very very shy, taking this step in life helped me with my social awkwardness I learned quickly that networking is important and helps build your brand.

I just want everyone to continue to watch me on my journey as a business woman in hopes of my Beauty cosmetics line expanding soon and to never give up on you dream no matter what.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start off with a brunch date at State Fare kitchen and bar in memorial or Grace’s.

We could visit the Houston Herman park area and site see the museums and park.

Head downtown to Buffalo Bayou Park and do more site seeing and maybe get some photos in.

Dinner at
Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, or Grand Lux.

Head to the midtown area and bar hope a little.

And also hit The Address or Kamp for some night life fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give recognition to all my family and friends. Without all of their love and support I feel as if I would have not believed in myself as much.
