We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance is a concept I think about very often… I definitely feel it’s one of the most important factors in life. During my journey as a content creator, I’ve experienced both highs and lows that equally taught me valuable lessons.
In the past year, I made the decision to leave South Florida and move into a penthouse near Midtown Atlanta’s Art District. This was a huge accomplishment for me because I was able to do this based on my years of work building Revenge Visuals.
My work/life balance instantly shifted once I moved away from home. I’ve always been the type of person who feels most comfortable when I’m being productive or making money. Having my own space lets me dedicate most of my time and energy to handling business with few distractions. I feel like as an artist the line between work and life is constantly blurred, sometimes disappearing entirely. The success in my career so far has forced a lot of difficult changes in my personal life. I still haven’t found a way to balance everything yet so I’m constantly making adjustments.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I could remember I’ve always been a creative person and loved entertaining. I’ve explored so many fields it’s difficult for me to put a label on my work as of now. I started as a Ford Model then got into acting very early in life. When I was in high school I purchased my first camera and started making skits. This led to me developing my skills as a photographer and overall content creator.
Currently, I’m the owner of Revenge Visuals, a digital media agency that offers Photography and Video Production services. We focus on creating content for social media platforms with a specialty in brand development. All our packages can be customized to meet the goals of our clients and provide them with the most value. I’m looking forward to continue building my brand and also getting back into entertainment. Combining my skills as a high-quality media producer with my love for art is where I feel most aligned.
The success that I’ve faced definitely hasn’t come easy by any means. There are many aspects of my personal life that get more difficult as my career takes off. Becoming a commodity for the public is something I’ve always avoided because of my experiences as a kid on TV. I feel like now especially because of social media there are a lot of people that approach me with the wrong intentions. Overall I’m getting adjusted to having both “fans” and “haters” of my work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My go-to is always the Galleria. I’ll always recommend the Louis Vuitton store first but the entire top two floors have great options. I love music so I would catch one of the live shows going on by either a mainstream or local artist. If Travis Scott is doing anything in the city it’s definitely the move. One of my secret spots is the Museum of Fine Arts, that’s the perfect place to spend time on a relaxed day. For a night-time vibe, I’d go to Rise or Club Onyx if I had a really good week. When it comes to eating I love Mexican food so we would stop by at least one different taco spot per day. Houston is one of the most beautiful cities in the world to me because it has the perfect mix of “everything.” S/o to the city!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I want to thank my family for their constant love & support. My parents are always helping me with advice or whatever I need. Especially my mom, so shoutout to her for sure! My sister also plays an important role in making sure I don’t get distracted by all the extra attention that comes with success.
There are so many people that play important roles in my life and many of them don’t even know it. For example, the people that oversee my apartment in Atlanta definitely deserve a shoutout. They made me feel comfortable while getting adjusted to a new city and figuring things out. During a time when I had to temporarily close my business, support from loved ones helped keep Revenge Visuals alive. I’m always thankful for my team and the efforts they contribute toward our goal of “Bringing Visions to Life”. Shoutout to all the clients that worked with us during the Spring 2023 season!
Finally, I have to thank myself for the insane amount of hours I’ve worked so far to be where I am today. Without “you”, (this) wouldn’t even exist. So I want to show me some love for putting up with my own daunting expectations. The effort that “Jaiden” puts into growth on a personal level is definitely noticed by ME… I truly appreciate that. Keep Going!
