We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Sutton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started a podcast in 2016 called The Destroying Doubt Podcast. I started this podcast in my closet with a cheap microphone and a cheap laptop. That same podcast would be listened to in over 30 different countries and allow me to interview people that had long inspired me. I also received feedback from people from all walks of life on how the messages on my podcast helped them destroy doubt and pursue their purpose in life. That podcast opened the doors for me to accomplish my dream of working in radio and television. Me seeing my ideas travel around the world from my bedroom closet, showed me that there’s power in pressing record and speaking to a particular audience. This is what has influenced me to start my own media company. I want to help other people with inspiring messages get their words out to the world and make an impact. If I can create inspiring content myself and help as many others as I can produce inspiring content, then I will have evoked great change in the world!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called Destroying Doubt Media and I create quality content that educates, inspires, and entertains audiences. Not only do I create impactful content, I produce content for Inspirational Speakers and faith-based entities looking to grow their influence and reach with podcasting and/or creative video content.
I believe that what separates my company from other media companies geared towards podcasting is that I’m doing more than just managing people’s show. You have some companies that email potential guests to be on their client’s show and upload the show for them but I’m able to take it a step further because I actually come from the industry. My experience in television & radio gives me professional industry insight into how to structure a show and produce content that people actually enjoy. I can offer valid interview tips, given the fact that I have interviewed so many high profile individuals. I can also offer a wealth of technical knowledge that I have gained over the years in high-level professional settings.
It was not easy getting to this point and it’s still not easy. I’ve worked many dead-end jobs, I served in the military, and most recently, I’ve been an audio/video production teacher. All of these stops along the way have been extremely stressful as I quickly learned that they were not for me and that I had a different purpose in life. I just never stopped pursuing “that thing.” I didn’t know what “that thing” was when I was going through all of those phases but I knew that there was something out there for me that was greater than what I was currently doing and I would not stop until I found it. That’s what drove me and how I got through those challenges because I told myself, that I would rather suffer from the discomfort of trying something new and it potentially not working out than the discomfort of staying put and wondering what could’ve been.
My story is all about destroying doubt. I continuously push past doubt to pursue my dreams and I won’t stop dreaming! I truly believe that the world is a better place when people are aligned with their purpose and they use their talent & gifts for greater good, instead of just playing it safe and going through the motions. Before I leave this place, I want to help as many people as I can destroy doubt and do something meaningful that will impact the world. I also want to create great content that will continue to inspire generations even after I’m gone!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay, so…I consider myself a foodie, so most if not all of the places that I’m going to take them are going to revolve around food, LOL.
I would definitely take them to the Turkey Leg Hut. I love that place! They might even get to see a celebrity or two.
Then, I would take them to The Breakfast Klub. Sooo good!
The next day, we’re going to Bahama Bucks. That place is legendary!
I would definitely swing by Discovery Green and sit at the park.
Lastly, I would take a friend to the graffiti park to take some cool pictures for IG! I could also take them to see all of the great murals around the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Denise Sutton deserves all of the credit in the world! She is my everything! She has supported me and given me words of encouragement when I needed it most and when I doubted myself. She’s always the first to like my posts on social media and sometimes the only like on my posts, LOL. She is a great mother to our children and she’s also a Go Getter! She inspires me daily and there’s no me without her.
