Meet Jayla Brown | Clothing Line

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayla Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always wanted to operate a small business, therefore my initial thought process was to launch it when I was still quite young so I could experience running my own business. My entire life should not be spent working for someone else. The fact that I own a business allows me to give back to my community because, as a small town with few stores, we must travel at least 45 to 1 hour to buy clothing. Therefore, I figured that I should start one when I was young and establish my brand so that, when the time comes for me to move, my company will be well-known elsewhere.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In terms of business, it wasn’t simple because there are many competitors in the town I live in, making it difficult to gain support for your brand. I had to experiment with a variety of patterns before I was able to find the one that the world would adore; that design, broken scars, is currently my best-selling item. Lessons I’ve picked up along the way include the fact that strangers can be your supporters. When it comes to STITCHEZ, you heal wounds and scars. Never give up, even if you have numerous scars because those scars will eventually turn into wounds.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to town, I would take him somewhere in Chicago, perhaps to Top Gulf or Steak 48 for a fun night out. I would also take him somewhere in downtown Chicago and book a nice hotel.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really want to thank my friend Cj Harrison for all of his support over the years. Without him, I would not have been able to bring my brand to life through the design of my logo, and he is very encouraging when it comes to business and making things. He advises me to try things on my own before asking for help just for future reference so I won’t have to rely on others for everything. It is wonderful to have another clothing line friend who is willing to assist.
