We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaylon Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylon, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Longevity is success.”
As a young creative living in a society that bases a great importance on social media and overnight success, this quote simply reminds me that I am where I’m supposed to be.
Each day that I continue this journey, I am becoming more successful. To me, moving forward everyday is a step in the right direction.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a poet that’s transforming the medium at every chance. There were many times in the past my art has been seen as unconventional so instead of trying to conform to make everyone else comfortable I find comfort in being an outlier. I released my first book “Wild Thoughts” just over a year ago. In the author’s notes I talked a little bit about how art is a mental break for myself ; It allows me to really express my emotions freely and then choose whether or not I want to share them. My latest piece is just that; my raw emotions in stanzas polished but unfiltered hence the title “Wild Thoughts” Since then I’ve been working to translate those poems using different forms of media such as film, photography, and NFT. I am also a designer for A Delinquent Company based in Dallas, Texas. Partnered with Jarrius Carter our mission is to educate our audience with history about black trailblazers and achievers who’ve been forgotten by the curriculum. Our merchandise is uniquely hand made and although the process is time consuming we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am most thankful to God for allowing these blessings into my life. My family values and the morals they instilled within me are still to this day. Thank you to my parents, brothers, and my girlfriend Daja for keeping me grounded. Lastly you can’t tell the story about my progress without mentioning my brother Jarrius Carter. Jarrius and I made a pact to hold each other accountable everyday and I can say wholeheartedly he inspires me to be better everyday.
