We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmyne Citizen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmyne, what do you attribute your success to?
Customer service has been the lifeline of our business. Always being available to answer questions and meet the needs of consumers is vital to sustaining any business. Sweets by Jazz LLC will always go an extra step to set us apart from the rest.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
S.W.EE.T.S. stands for Sugar With EExtra Tasty Soul. Identified by the SUGAR ANT, Sweets by Jazz LLC stands firm on the scripture: Proverbs 6:6 – Go to the ant thou sluggard, Consider her ways and be wise. The ant represents wisdom, power, strength, and of course, the LOVE of SWEETS. Sweets by Jazz LLC was born after watching a popular cake baking show and challenging myself to recreate a cake within the likeness of what I had seen. I’ve always been in the kitchen with my grandmother and mother, so it didn’t seem too farfetched. Well, my first attempt wasn’t too bad but it also wasn’t perfect. As a self taught cake artist, it took a lot of trial and error to perfect my craft. I’ll be honest and say I did have a few fails when I started. There were a lot of “YouTube university” lessons and research involved. There is no right or wrong way to do things in the world of cake decorating. I’ve seen everyone do different things that work for them and throughout my journey, I’ve adopted my own techniques. I sacrificed a lot of material wants and desires to fund this business. Cake decorating expenses can get really pricey but when it’s something you’re passionate about, you’ll “blow a bag”. I’m so grateful for how much my business has blossomed and I’m looking forward to continued growth and opportunities to come.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would do all things aesthetically pleasing because we love a social media worthy photo. We’d frequent restaurants/bars that serve pretty drinks, visit some museums, turn into models at the graffiti wall park, ride scooters downtown, etc. There’s so many fun things to do in the city and not enough hours in the day to get it all in.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My late grandmother, Diane Larry, inspired my journey today with Sweets by Jazz LLC. I remember those late nights, before holidays, staying up just to help her prepare the food and desserts for the next day. She was a natural and I’m so grateful to have had such a role model. My mother, Cassandra Citizen, deserves just as much recognition. She’s a serial entrepreneur as well and that’s where I get my drive from.
