We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzmon Key and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazzmon, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson business has taught me; your main support will always come from strangers. Family and sometimes close friends will be the first people to try to take advantage of you or not give you their full support. They don’t always believe in your dream. Don’t be afraid to network and reach out to stranger for support. They keep your business afloat.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand/business is called Zooted Treats. I started this business on a hunch really. I have sickle cell so I was just sitting at home thinking I want to be able to create something for cancer and blood disorder patients that will help take their pain away. Originally I wanted to create body butters and oil. I’m still in the process of perfecting the recipe for my body butters, but I moved forward with merchandise and cooking. I love to cook so it worked well with my business. I’m most excited to provide body butters and actually help people with their pain. Speaking from first hand experience I know people would appreciate that.
I got to where I am successfully today with the help of some other successful entrepreneurs. It was not easy, I went through a lot of trials and tribulations and I’m still figuring it out today. I overcame these challenges by making mistakes and learning from them. I’m very grateful for how far I’ve come.
I want the world to know that I don’t let my disease define me. Instead I found a way to start a business that will help others like me. My body butters will ease your pain and the food will take your mind off your pain!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are visiting Houston and love to take pictures I would suggest visiting the waterfall walk on post oak. Also the graffiti walls downtown. Be adventurous and ride scooters or bikes downtown. Check out Angel pibes safari or MSR Houston (if you like go karts). 40 love.
Food wise I suggest veegos, Dona Leti’s, forget me not, the gripper kitchen, leightons (for late night eats), gottis. There’s so many more but these are a good few.
For happy hour go to grooves, C3, whisky cake, and sixes and sevens.
Definitely go to some poetry slams, karaoke or go make your own perfume/candles at foxfire candle works.
For dessert try Chill milkshake and waffle bar, red sno wagon, Sweet and boozy, the puddery and masterpiece desserts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank God, for always being my provider and leading me down the path of success. Thank you to my parents for being my number 1 supporters and telling everyone to shop with me!
