We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeana’e Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeana’e, why did you pursue a creative career? I chose to pursue a creative career because it makes me so happy. There’s nothing else I enjoy more than exploring my creative interests. My parents allowed me to explore creative arts when I was younger, so I always enjoyed this path.
Going to school at Angleton High School is where I became an active member of the drama department. I was inducted into “The International Thespian Honor Society.” This experience allowed me to compete in “Texas Forensic Association” tournaments. After I graduated from AHS, I transferred to Alvin Community College to explore their drama program. This chapter of my life is when my artistic journey started to evolve. I was involved in various theatre productions and also had the opportunity to work in the costume department. After I graduated with my Associate of Arts degree from ACC, I transferred to the University of Houston to pursue a broadcast journalism degree. I decided I wanted to explore other career fields. As a student, I think it’s important to be involved in organizations that can help shape your creative journey. Organizations like Coog Tv and Coog Life have added to my experience as an upcoming creative.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community? As a journalist, I love exploring different aspects of journalism such as life, arts, culture, beauty, and food journalism. I love appreciating various avenues of journalism and how these layers help shape our world. This is why I decided to pursue a creative career. Recently, I had an opportunity to intern for “Texas Tasty” which sparked my recent adventure of food blogging. A true “foodie” at heart, I’ve been vegan for three years. This journey has been so incredible and I love to create content around this new part of my life on social media.
It’s been a long journey for me but my story is my inspiration. The challenges that I have overcome are my reason for “never giving up.” Losing my mom at an early age motivated me to “never give up”. This is what I want the world to know about me. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, you can do anything; just keep swimming.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Omg, I love this! My link tree includes some articles from my previous internship which highlight restaurants to explore in Houston and Austin. Let’s talk about food. Hands down, “Cascabel Vegan” is my favorite vegan spot in the city. Cascabel does an amazing job bringing tasty vegan Mexican cuisine to people who want to explore vegan food. For drinks, check out “FM Bar and Kitchen” in Montrose. They recently just opened this location and it’s a fun vibe. Looking for a place to relax? You have to go to “Black Swan Yoga.” I’m a yogi myself and I love a good hot yoga session! They have classes for all levels and are always excited to meet new faces.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition? My biggest support system is my amazing family and friends. They’re always encouraging me to go after my dreams and I wouldn’t be who I am without them. My family is extremely supportive and I love them so much. I also want to give a shout out to The Valenti School of Communications at the University of Houston. The tools and resources they provide for communication majors are amazing. I’ve met some talented people and I’m very thankful for everyone who supports me along the way.
