Meet Jeanette Hill: Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeanette Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeanette, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been my own boss, I wanted to be different with my approach to fashion. It gives me more freedom to create my own styles at my own pase, and use all of my creative talents. My businesses are more of a passion v’s work. I enjoy connecting with customers on a level no one else offer with, just by listening. I started “JAI” on What’s next  for me. Pushing myself to do more, to see if i could do it own my own. So, i start my own clothing line. I actually shocked myself. Coming from a background with no education in Fashion design, only running on Gracy & Mercy, and the will to push my self further. I used my own finances to start my line with no financial help. Which was best for me to keep challenging myself through all the ups & downs. I wouldn’t give up because my money was riding on it. Even if it doesn’t go well. I know I did it own my own, and accomplished another goal in life.. and that alone, I’m so proud of myself for doing. And, I think my Mother would be poud of me as well. I closed my Store front Jeanette’s Unique Boutique before i went to Italy, and made it a online Boutique. Soon as i came back from Italy, Covid -19 hit us.. i was so happy i made changes before i left.. Then my hobby “JAI” was born. I enjoy what I do, every bit of it. In other words Covid  gave me a chance to clear my mind and figure out what Jeanette wanted to do with the rest of her life. What better time than now. Parcratnation is not in my vocabulary, and definitely go after every thing I want with confidence.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Well, it wasn’t easy! I wanted to give up many times. This industry is not for the weak. Hard work & Dedication has always been part of my core values. Nothingis free, If you want it! You must be willing to put in the work. I have no problem with doing the work, I get up every morning if I have to or not to work on several of my other passions. I also work with lots of Creatives Professionals in the Fashion world. Fashion shows on all scales.. Big & small. University Fashion shows to give back. Styling for Music video’s,Music Artist, TV show hosts, Magazine shoots, Window advertising, Featured in several magazines includung my own magazine. I have been blessed to work with alot of good people in my career. Me having a Boutique before I started designing my own line, I loved meeting & getting to know my customers beyond my business. I have so many bonds i have created over the years that is what makes me  love what I do! Where I am now, I just launched my New Clothing line. I dedicated my first peice in honor of my Mother. Margie A. Hill, who is no longer with us. It’s called the “Margie”! She would be ticked pink. If the Lord says the same, the rest of my line will Launch in New York for New York Fashion week 2021. For now we will just have to see. With other surprises to come. COVID-19 has changed all of our lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m pretty much staying away from people who are not wearing masks and closed in spaces. I don’t want to be the reason no one catches COVID-19 so for now. I’m social distancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank God & my husband Thomas, for being my Rock & biggest Cheerleader! Pushing me to achieve all my goals, and unconditionally loving me. My Children, Twashana Hill for always lifting me in prayer you are such a Soldier of the Lord. Kahleeb Brown, always saying..you got this Mama & I’m so proud of you.. Grandbabies who have kept me on my toes. Always interested in what I’m up to Ashantee, Kahleeb Jr & Paul Jr.

Michelle Cofield, Ken Robinson & FelixJandrstudios are the people I work with the most. This is an Amazing Team. It has been a pleasure working with you all. My Family & Friends who have always supported me no matter what..I love you! This venture i am on is my own personal Journey and Thank you all for being a part of it. In life you have to follow your own calling. To my you are so Greatly appreciated,  and I mean that with everything in me. All I do is because of you all when have rode with me from day one, my customers have kept me busy during COVID-19! Blessed & Grateful for that! You are like family, our connections go way beyond a purchase. Praying we all get through this together. Much love
