Meet Jeannette Stagg | Salon Owner & Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannette Stagg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeannette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was inspired by this unique concept of luxury salon services within the comfort of the homes of my clients. I got to experience how normalized this was during my apprenticeships in Manhattan and Los Angeles, cities recognized as leaders in the ever-evolving beauty industry. In 2017, I already had a foundation of supportive and loyal clients who had provided feedback that this was something they would really love. This service really speaks to moms who don’t want to bring their kids to the salon, young mothers, and even busy professionals that don’t have the time to invest in the commute. I even have clients that request my services at their office! Hair care is self care and now I’m able to provide an immersive experience that dials in on this very definition by subtracting another level of stress that can sometimes be associated with veering off your daily routine.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve now expanded my business and planted roots in a beautiful salon I’m very proud of, located in Katy. I still provide mobile services but I have a team that works with me to meet the needs of our growing clients. I had a really impactful experience in Paris at David Mallett’s salon where he made every person feel like they were guests in his house. This influenced the ambiance and design of my salon because I loved the concept of having guests visit my space and feel relaxed. It’s no secret that when you spend a few hours a month with your stylist, you develop a personal bond or relationship. I don’t want our guests to feel like strangers when I see them. Each of these decisions has helped build confidence and definition to my brand. I’d like to believe I’m still pretty young in the industry but this means I still have so much more I can learn and continue to build into what makes KMS so special.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well if I had a friend visiting, I would definitely want it to be a memorable experience and I’m all about self care. I’d book a spa day at Milk and Honey in the River Oaks area and follow that with a dinner at my favorite steakhouse, Steak 48. I also really love the ambiance, menu, and craft cocktails at MAD so that would be a tough call on which restaurant I would that pick.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Miss Emma James was my Cosmetology teacher at the Miller Career Center in 2011. I like to say she holds credibility to where I am in my career and has guided me far beyond my time in her program. She was more than a teacher, and very quickly became a role model and mentor, and continues to do so today not only in my business, but my personal life as well. I’ve also been blessed with the opportunity to take my experience and knowledge back to the classroom at Miller with Miss Emma up until her retirement last year. What I’m most grateful for is her way of pushing me past what I think I’m capable of. The biggest life lessons she lives by is to be true to myself, and my decisions have to be what is best for me, my happiness, and success.
