We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannie B. Asmr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeannie B. ASMR, what is the most important factor behind your success?
A YouTube Creator basically starts at zero. Zero followers, zero views, zero experience, zero income, etc. It takes a while (more for some) to build up a momentum of followers and viewers who faithfully await your posts. This could be 6 months to a year – or more. It isn’t an overnight or fast process.

Success comes from attracting a supportive community who tune in to hear what you have to say. In my case with ASMR videos, they are tuning in to the comfort and calm I provide…it’s a safe place to tune in, listen to a soothing voice, knowing that there is nothing controversial that will stimulate debate or stress. My channel, as it is with most ASMR creators, promotes calm, safety, and relaxation through various triggers such as soft-spoken talking.

When a creator doesn’t see instant results, it’s easy to think about quitting…that it doesn’t work. But sticking to it regardless of the numbers, is the only way forward for success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First of all, what IS ASMR? Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) describes the deep relaxation and pleasant scalp and neck tingling some people feel in response to quiet sounds such as whispering, or quiet sounds combined with gentle movements and personal attention.

As an ASMR creator, my goal is bring calm and peace to those who tune into my channel. I fondly call what I do a bunch of calming “blah, blah, blah.” Some people need a bit of extra calming in the evening as they try to get to sleep. But most YouTube videos are very stimulating, if not OVER-stimulating. Mine videos kind of “lull you to sleep” with either simple magazine flip-throughs, or show-and-tells of various items that make soft, rustly noises, or just plain talking with positive affirmations.

What sets me apart from others is probably my maturity. I’m not a “sexy young thing” looking to be the next influencer. Rather, I’m a mom figure, or grandma figure, or close sister figure…someone who you feel you can trust. My community resonates with me because I give them a sense of what they perhaps miss in a mature female figure (or WISH they had) in their lives.

I’m proud of the connection I have with nearly 150,000 of my followers. I do my best to respond when they comment, affirm that they are OK, that everything will turn out fine, that it’s ok to let go of the stress and worries we carry with us.

BUT I’ve also learned that I can’t give too much personal advice. I realize there are lines that I can’t cross with regard to that. I just try to be as encouraging as I can.

Another challenge is the time factor in responding. With videos that get hundreds and hundreds of comments, I have to be judicious about which I can actually respond to.

I’d want the world to know that with my channel, there is a safe place to go to “tune out” to, put on as background noise, and take away a sense of peace and calm.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmm…we love Houston and live only about an hour north of it. We love taking people to the NASA – Johnson Space Center, or to Jones Hall for a concert, or even down to Galveston. We live near Lake Conroe, so there are lots of great restaurants on the lake as well as boating or canoeing for a relaxing day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to say it was my grandson who said, “Baba Nee Nee, you should make YouTube videos.” I was tucking him into bed, using my “soothing Grandma voice” for him to unwind to when he said this. I said, “What would I make videos about?!” He said, “Anything! You have a nice voice that people would want to listen to. It’s relaxing!”
So – my grandson, Ashton, first and foremost, is my inspiration!

I had been watching other ASMR content creators, like Maria from GentleWhispering, and thought, “Maybe I can do that, too.” So I followed in the path similar to that of other creators, yet creating my unique niche in the process.

So several months later, I sat down with my iPhone and recorded and uploaded my first video. It wasn’t slick but I stuck to it, kept it up, and tried to improve each video – even by just a little bit.
