We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffrey Reich-Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeffrey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wanted my own retail business and had several ideas and this was one of them. This was my passion project where I wanted to show people that you can practice conscious capitalism. I have volunteered for different charities since I was a teenager and have always given back to my community and those in need and I worked in a candy store when I was in high school and always wanted my own candy store. So I took my desire to have my own charity and desire to have my own candy store and combined them into one business. Our business model is to take 60% of our profits and donate it to our two main charity partners, the AIDS Foundation of Houston and Barrio Dogs. We do plan on working with other charities by selling at their fundraising events and takes a % of the sales from those specific events and donating them to that charity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What set’s me apart from others is my strong desire to prove that conscious capitalism can be practiced and not just a theory that everyone rambles on about. That is what I am proud of, because I will not give up on my mission to make Jelvin’s Candy a success. We want people to think of us as the first go to for gifts for family, friends, employee’s and client’s. My career in Hospitality, Food and Beverage and even retail work in my youth bred me to be successful and though there are always bumps in the road, my determination helped me rise above any challenges that were ever thrown at me. The biggest lesson learned is understand all aspects of your business as trust is not something you can have in everyone, so knowing all the moving parts of your business is important. You don’t need to be an expert in all aspects of the functions of a business, but you have to have enough of an understanding to make sure no one is taking advantage of you. I want the world to know about Jelvin’s Candy is that our mission statement states clearly what our company is about, which is: ” To help those in need by providing a product, service, and culture of love, peace, and charity through candy.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people friends and family who have been super supportive from the beginning both financially and as sounding boards. One of my biggest supporters Camille Lajaunie has helped Jelvin’s get started with a generous donation to our original gofundme campaign as well as with word of mouth. Camille runs an amazing organization in honor of her husband called the Darren Lajaunie Tennis Scholarship which is an annual Tennis Tournament that gives students scholarships for college. I am so grateful to Camille for all her amazing support!
